How about listening to music when cleaning our firearms?

I hum to my favorite tunes, usually Mozarabic Chant.
Sometimes Gregorian.

Sure. Let your subconscious be the responsible one.

Music no. Usually some reruns on TV. Not to mention the kids, dogs, etc. Gotta be able to tune things out & maintain situational awareness.
I reload my empty mags 1st, remove all ammo except whats in my EDC from the room, then go nuts on the cleaning.

I made two music topics.

  • oldies but goodies, John & Blacky’s back porch because older songs are timeless along with real musicians and singers that can never be replaced. I like older country western songs that tell stories and feelings.
  • music to cook and boogie Woogie with was made because having a drink gives me a appetite and helps me be creative. It’s pretty much music with a good beat and gives me a work out while I’m refreshing my dance step & moves ( right @Johnnyq60 ). Some times food goes flying around but you have to brake a few eggs to make a omelette you know
    ( @Todd30 ).
** I’m old school but not when it comes to the new wireless speakers and especially wireless headphones that will blow your doors off without
Disturbing anyone else, oh yes they are a big help to keep up with my
Tinnitus, no worry with Blue tooth.
PS: if I miss spell or put a reply in wrong topics, or place ( blame It on John Barley corn ) cause I can’t have too much fun.

Lots of good reads in this string. Shows variety, ideas, perhaps reflective how our needs differ. Appreciate the tips, and motivation.

A bit off topic, but comparing lead to copper, I’ve been leaning toward copper ammo, though lead being more affordable. Do you all find copper to be cleaner and preferable for EDC? Kinda liking combo of copper bullet with nickel plated casings for smoother operations as an EDC prep.

Well said brother @Blacky I an old school myself. Music was safe and great to listen to back in the days. A lot of the music nowadays preach violence especially Rap. It does not bother me to listen to music while I’m cleaning my guns, no distractions at all. No kids around right now.

Shooting ( lead bullets ) is different in many ways. First thing is not all lead bullets are cast. You can buy or make them with endless coatings and, hardnesses ( Brinell ). The causes of leading or fouling barrels is very misunderstood. Bullet speed, size and, rate of twist are important to understand. Casting lead bullets is a interesting hobby and can be very dangerous and hazardous to your health.

  • lead bullets can be effectively used for self defense if they are not to hard. ( understand Brinell )
Like other things, shooting lead bullets can get extremely deep and interesting, and have produced incredible long range accuracy.
  • nickel plated cases will stand up better than brass, to some conditions including coming in contact with
Leather. The down side is they are more expensive and don’t last as long for reloading. Nickel cases ( may )
Scratch or score your reloading dies.
PS: does you hand gun have polygonal or Ballard rifling :question:see what I mean jelly been. *** OMG >>> if you cleaned you fire arm and don’t have parts left over, forget about it.

I’m kind of partial to the 1812 Overture…the one with the real cannons and bells… :hugs: :cowboy_hat_face:

Classical music, while doing the firearm cleaning chore, now that’s an interesting scene, cool. :sunglasses:

Music pretty much 24/7. Mostly blues and 60s-90s rock.
Try some of Joe Bonamassa’s stuff. A gifted guitarist and rolls everything from easy blues to mid-level rock.

That is a bad advice for me. :joy: Whenever I’m listening him I cannot focused on other stuff. He is a master of guitar. :ok_hand:

Some of the best days at the range ended with music playing and a chimney of charcoal heating up while cleaning my firearms on my back patio. And I’m usually cleaning them two at a time (always at least one 1911 plus one of “the others”). I’m always focused on what I’m doing. But the sounds and smells make the smile bigger.

Usually just peace and quiet to focus on the task at hand. My mind unlikely to “wander” without other stimuli. Experienced distractions while cleaning a weapon and the result was more work cleaning up spills, finding misplaced items, etc.

I always listen to Aloha Joe who broadcasts from the “big island”. I have always found Hawaiian music calming and peaceful. Take a break and enjoy it too. AlohaJoe.com

I’ve always liked “Lazy” by Deep Purple, so I bookmarked this when I ran across it. Joe has to wait his turn, but does a great job when he gets to play :+1::

WRT music while cleaning firearms, I always just listen to the sounds in my head  It was “Hocus Pocus” by Focus the other day …

Sweet. That would sound good in a bar while I had something to eat and a bourbon. Intro a bit long, but worth the wait.

Interesting question. On our police range behind the glass was our cleaning station. The exhaust fans were quite loud, along with the Range Master P.A., and the next round of shooters on the line.

Guns were unloaded on the line before heading for the cleaning station. We then cleaned our gun. Then we walked over the sand barrel, were handed our new factory ammo, and loaded and holstered our gun.

So, here is my recommendations for at home cleaning.

  1. Render all firearms safe while not distracted.

  2. Transfer them to your cleaning table open and locked back.

  3. Verify all magazines are empty before walking them over.

  4. Turn on Norah Jones to desired level.

  5. Clean your guns.
