Judge Merchan sued for financial disclosures amid concerns of daughter’s Democrat work (msn.com)

EXCLUSIVE: America First Legal (AFL) is suing New York State Supreme Court Judge Juan Merchan for refusing to turn over his financial disclosures amid questions about his daughter’s work at a Democratic firm, Fox News Digital has learned.

AFL sued Merchan, who presided over former President Donald Trump’s six-week-long trial in New York v. Trump, stemming from the yearslong investigation out of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office. They also sued the New York State Unified Court System’s Ethics Commission.

Trump was found guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. Trump has appealed the ruling and called on Merchan to overturn the verdict.

Fox News Digital first obtained the lawsuit.

The lawsuit comes after the AFL sent a demand letter last week for Merchan’s financial disclosures, threatening legal action. The AFL previously requested those records in June.

Under New York law, judges are required to file annual financial disclosures, which are required to be made available upon request.

“The law is clear that judicial financial disclosures must be released to the public,” AFL Vice President Dan Epstein told Fox News Digital. “New York’s highest court has stated that such disclosures are necessary for parties before the courts to get a fair shake.”

Epstein said the public “needs to know what Judge Merchan is hiding or even if he failed to file financial disclosures at all.”

“This is especially important given the fact that Merchan appears to have engaged in unlawful campaign contributions and is on the precipice of criminally sentencing the former president of the United States,” Epstein said. “Fundamental fairness dictates a resolution of America First Legal’s suit in its favor.”

The AFL is seeking the records amid longstanding concerns of a conflict of interest in Merchan’s role in the trial amid his daughter’s political work.

A comment made on a “gun tuber” vid.

Yeah, the extremes (in either direction) are usually the loudest. I’ve seen just as many folks who are angry, they can’t own functional tanks and fully automatic weapons, as I’ve seen folks that would like to see all the guns melted down.
I have but this to say:

  1. Some people are evil; guns are not the cause.
  2. People kill, most of the time, without a gun.
  3. People can, and will, make methods to kill.
  4. Locks (and laws) only keep out the honest.
  5. A good man with a gun, never wishes to use it.

Tennessee Medical Board Refuses to Enforce New IMG Law (msn.com)

Members of the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners felt they were locked in an impossibly tough spot.

They had to choose between defying a new state law – one their legal counsel sternly advised them to enforce lest they face costly lawsuits – or approving a licensing pathway for international medical graduates (IMGs) who had never practiced or trained in the U.S.

“What we have to have, legally, to comply with our General Assembly, is a way for these people to come submit their application,” chief deputy general counsel David Silvius told members during its July 30 board meeting. And if the board refuses to make that process available, “if (an applicant) decides they want to sue you, that’s what they’ll do. … The law says these people are entitled to come ask for a license,” he said.

But several board members expressed horror with their options. They said the new statute gives them little to no way to assess applicants’ competence, as they have when physicians are trained in the U.S.

During a nearly 90-minute debate, some board members said that if they allowed foreign-trained doctors to get in the door with so few qualifications, they’d be allowing potentially incompetent physicians to harm patients.

First-ever mRNA vaccine halts pancreatic cancer in its tracks (msn.com)

Key Takeaways Some people with pancreatic cancer survive many years after diagnosis. In these patients, the immune system keeps the cancer from returning. A messenger RNA vaccine based on this concept is being tested in combination with another type of immunotherapy. Early results suggest the vaccine is having the desired effect on the immune system.

mRNA vaccines have gained widespread attention for their crucial role in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, even before the pandemic, researchers at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center were investigating the potential of mRNA vaccine technology in the fight against cancer.

Leading this innovative research is Dr. Vinod Balachandran, a physician-scientist associated with the David M. Rubenstein Center for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the Human Oncology and Pathogenesis Program, and the Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy.

Dr. Balachandran’s groundbreaking efforts have paved the way for a clinical trial focused on using mRNA vaccines to treat pancreatic cancer, offering new hope to patients confronting this challenging disease.

Neoantigens in Pancreatic Tumors

At the heart of this innovative approach lies the concept of neoantigens, proteins found within pancreatic tumors that serve as alarm bells, alerting the immune system to the presence of cancer cells. These neoantigens play a pivotal role in rallying the immune response to keep pancreatic cancer at bay.

Unlike traditional vaccines, which are one-size-fits-all, these mRNA vaccines are tailored to each individual, with the aim of stimulating the production of specific immune cells known as T cells. These T cells are trained to recognize and target pancreatic cancer cells, reducing the risk of cancer recurrence following surgical removal of the primary tumor.

Man accidentally stabbed himself to death trying to separate two burgers (msn.com)

Barry Griffiths died following a freak kitchen accident - Wales News Service

A man died after he accidentally stabbed himself while trying to separate two frozen burgers with a knife, an inquest has heard.

Barry Griffiths, 57, is believed to have sustained a fatal wound to his stomach while parting the frozen-hard burgers with the utensil.

The inquest heard he lived alone and lay dead for several days before being discovered with a trail of blood around his kitchen and bedroom.

The inquest heard he was found in his flat in Llandrindod Wells, Powys, and a post-mortem examination revealed that he died from a stab wound.

His body was found in July last year after concerns were raised that he hadn’t been seen for more than a week.

Mr Griffiths, who was described as a “very private man”, was found on his bed at his supported living accommodation fully clothed and with blood on his swollen stomach.

His phone, wallet and computer remained in place and there was no sign of any disturbance at the first-floor flat. There was blood in the hallway, bathroom and bedroom.

Detective Chief Inspector Jonathan Rees said: “The bottom drawer of the freezer had been left open and pulled forward in a position to access food items.

“On the work surface in the kitchen adjacent to the fridge-freezer were two uncooked burgers, a knife and a tea towel.

“The wound to the abdomen would have been approximately the height of the work surface. My hypothesis at that stage was that Mr Griffiths was attempting to separate frozen burgers using a knife.”

Detective Sergeant Stephen Vaughan said that he was satisfied that it was not a suicide but “more of an unexplained death” and that there was no indication he had been assaulted.

Home Office pathologist Dr Richard Jones gave the cause of death as blood loss through sharp force injury.

Statements, house-to-house enquiries, and checks on Mr Griffiths’s finances and digital devices were made which ruled out any third-party involvement.

DCI Rees said that the tip of a kitchen knife, which was marked with a substance initially identified as chocolate, turned out to be Mr Griffiths’s blood.

Coroner Patricia Morgan concluded that Mr Griffiths, who had restricted use of one arm following a stroke, most likely died from an accident while preparing frozen food for cooking.

Mrs Morgan said Mr Griffiths, who led a “relatively private life with limited contact with others”, lay dead for several days from a single stab wound.

I feel awful for that guy. Yeah, using a sharp knife to separate the burgers was not smart. Pretty much all of us have done a dumb thing or two, then looked back afterward and thought, “that was stupid, and I got lucky.” This poor guy didn’t get lucky. What a horrible way to die, slowly bleeding out alone from a stab wound like that. I lived alone for quite some time after divorce, and was often aware of how easy it would be to have an accident and lay there, unable to get help. One time I had to give myself the heimlich to dislodge a piece of steak I was choking on. Had it not worked, I’d have died there at my kitchen bar. I’d have probably sat there for a few days until someone came to find out why I wasn’t coming to work.

We all need to be careful with ourselves, every day. We’re pretty fragile, really.

Thank God.

Honestly, I thought about the fact he had lost the use of his arm, and that he was in an assisted care place, and thought maybe he’d had a cognitive effect from the stroke. It sounds like his assisted care place wasn’t giving much assistance.

Anyway, yeah, pushing any knife toward yourself (assuming that’s what he was doing) should set off all kinds of “NO!” thoughts in your brain!

My chosen method of separating frozen burgers is to slam the package on the concrete a couple times.
