Dennis Tueller, a SLC police sergeant, conducted a study comparing how long it took a police officer to draw and fire a handgun and how long it took an average person to run to them from 7 yards and inflict a fatal stab wound. The time it took to close the distances ran from 1 to 3 seconds. The average time for a police officer to draw and shoot was 1.5 seconds.
This study proves knives and other non-firearm weapons can be as deadly, in some cases, more deadly than a firearm. It turns the old sage, “Don’t bring a knife to a gunfight” on its head. People on certain drugs or amped up on adrenaline can continue the attacks as if they were never shot. The case study for this is a man attacked a police officer and beat him to death. The officer got several shots off and into his attacker with his 9mm service weapon. Several of those shots were about the head and face area, yet the man continued the attack. Toxicology reports indicate no drugs or alcohol in the attacker’s system. The attacker eventually died but not before beating the police officers to death.
If someone is breaking into my house armed with a knife, they are just as much of a threat as someone armed with a gun of any kind. They make themselves eligible to aired out with my .45 ACP with JHP’s.

This is where you need to know your state’s laws. KY for instance says anyone breaking into your home can automatically be considered a lethal threat and you are home.
What you do to said intruder is up to your conscience and mental capacity to handle the outcome of your actions.

See thug climbing ladder w/ deadly weapon in hand.
Run downstairs and outside to the bottom of his ladder.
Yank ladder out from under thug with deadly weapon. Down he goes to receive injuries when his speeding body slams against the whole of the earth, stopping him cold. If he hasn’t stopped, follow up with some full bodyweight stomps to the head, groin and ankles, shattering him against the pavement until satisfied he is no longer a threat or is non-functional.
Or…
Drop heavy objects on top of thug as he climbs, forcing him to retreat and/or putting injuries on him, disabling him, causing him to fall, or rendering him non-functional.
Or…
If you have that handy-dandy labor saving device on you, that object which most people call a “firearm”, but what I like to call my ‘KFD’ (‘Kinetic Force Dispenser’), point it at thug and demand he remove himself immediately. Chances are excellent he will do just that. If not, personally, I would have waited until he got through the window and had one foot inside before emptying my KFD into his chest.
Or…
More than likely, I would have grabbed the girl and quietly left the premises while thug with deadly weapon was climbing to easily hide us safely from him, leaving thug alone in the house for police to grab when they got there.
You’re always better off as far as legal matters go if you don’t shoot anyone.
BUT IF YOU GOTTA DO WHAT YOU GOTTA DO–NEVER HESITATE. You’ll know when the time comes. The chill will race through your spine, hairs on the back of the neck stand up, then you’ll say to yourself: Take him out!. And that’s that.
Now, for the aftermath. The aftermath is not going to be pleasant, i assure you, but the aftermath you are experiencing is confirmation that you did the right thing. How do you know you did the right thing?
