Gun for Arthritic Thumbs

I’m wondering if this triangle is as good as Holosun’s green chevron. I loved that one… but unfortunately it worked the same way as their dots - I was seeing 3 - 4 chevrons… :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

Its all about the trigger. The grip is secondary

nice screenshot on the grip and the vid is informative. With a smaller gun, I should be able to get that support-hand thumb up high as demonstrated.

@Ruger9 - I do not yet own a firearm. Do you have any recommended exercises for trigger control? For grip strength, I am currently using a tennis ball, followed by the Captains of Crush ‘Guide’ gripper for my grip and also bought their bands (basically, colored rubber bands of different thicknesses for different levels). I am wondering the best way to use the bands between training to work on stuff like trigger control.

Gripper or rubber / silicone balls work great for grip strength. You can use them everywhere, the best time is in car during traffic jams.

Trigger control can be train without the pistol but you will never get perfection without it.
Use gripper, squeeze it to the max with 3 fingers and simulate trigger press with your trigger finger without releasing the gripper. The best results are with gripper 50lb or more.
You will need the firearm and dry fire everyday controlling your trigger press without squeezing and moving all other fingers.

Best investment ever to check and validate grip and trigger press - SIRT pistol. Unfortunately it’s an additional cost, but to be honest - worth every penny spent. (currently on “Christmas Sale” for $195 :ok_hand:)

Is the SIRT pistol considered a firearm (requiring background check, etc…) or can I buy this online or from the USCCA store?

Direct from the USCCA Store.

@jerzees - Do you have a link to the Christmas Sale? Thanks…

SIRT is a training tool. It is not a firearm at all… however it’s more than blue gun so you have to treat it with 4 gun safety rules the same way as a real firearm. That is the purpose of it. Train like with real firearm, both - skills and your mind.

My guess is that the best deal is to buy it directly from NLT website -link provided by @Karacal .
You will get Glock 19 style training pistol with extra magazines (these are weight to simulate full load), shooting glasses and crappy training knife.
This is really good deal - price cut by half for this package.

Just FYI I’m pretty sure this is for the Glock 17 sized pistol. Think you have to get the 115c to get a Glock 19 size pistol and those are not on sale.

Yeah… I might be wrong… you know, I suck with this Glock stuff… 19, 17, 22, 29, 43, 45, 2021, 2023… oopppsss… to much…

If racking the slide is an issue, hunt around for a Beretta Model 70 or 71.

Dry fire with snap caps

@John1505 doesn’t have firearm yet… snap caps don’t work well without it

Baoding balls are another good hand exercise device for increasing both strength and dexterity.

So I stopped by the range today after work. I had on me my standard pocket carry 642 j frame revolver that’s always with me, and my 8+1 S&W shield 380EZ that I often carry.

I ran several drills, one of which was with a standard silhouette target, putting two quick shots center mass and one head shot at 6 yards. In every single time I ran it with a timer, I was faster and more accurate with the revolver. I had started a thread on this topic once before. The J frame has a reputation for being hard to shoot well. That’s simply not true. With practice, and with a well broken in gun (that comes with practice) a j frame can be faster than a good semiauto. The 380EZ is a great shooting gun, with a hammer-fired mechanism, great recoil, and a crisp, light trigger. Still, I’m more effective with the revolver.

The ONLY thing I keep coming back to is a multiple threat situation. I really feel the shot limit with only 5 on board. With the 380 I could run the drill 3 times without a reload. With the revolver only once, with a couple spare shots for bad guy number 2. That’s why I sometimes carry 2 J frames.

Also, I use Underwood +P in the revolvers, which in tests show really good expansion and huge velocity for .38 Special. I know my hits will be more effective with those than any .380- placement being the same.

I would be surprised if this turned out to be the case in general. I can see that some people will be faster with a revolver than a semi auto but I don’t think snub nosed revolvers are going to be faster than most semis in the hands of most shooters. Especially larger semis assuming the design is a good fit for the specific shooter.

From an energy standpoint there really isn’t much difference between .38+p from a 2” barrel and .380 from 2.7” or longer barrels. The issue has been finding .380 ammo that can expand and penetrates reliably. But that is available now if still a little hard to find. Expanded diameter and depth are going to be pretty similar if not identical depending on the bullets used.

Handgun rounds whether they are the borderline .38 and .380 or “high power” .357 and 10mm rely on the bullet physically hitting something important. They don’t create the high velocity damage that rifle rounds can. The most important thing is getting enough shots into enough important places to stop the threat.

You also have to consider that in a self defense situation the adrenaline will be through the roof and both the shooter and the target are likely going to be moving so the chances that all the shots are going to hit the target let alone exactly where they need to are pretty small.

Statistically speaking a 5 shot revolver will be enough for the “average” situation. But if I found myself suddenly faced with 3 or more armed threats I would likely be wishing I had a lot more than the 12+1 rounds in the gun that I usually carry. But that is the compromise I feel comfortable making to have a smaller and easier to carry firearm.
