Going to add to Steve’s question here when buying a used firearm, how do you know if you are not getting someone elses problem when you buy? The first firearm I purchased was in 1994 and I bought a used Smith & Wesson 65LS that spent way more time at the gunsmith than firing range. Since then I have always bought my firearms new, however recently my GF just picked up a used Smith & Wesson 642 with laser grips, holster and case for $450 at Cabela’s that shoots like a dream and I am now questioning my choices in life.

Yes, I bought a 19 HMR with a nice scope. went to sight it in and the firing pin was not striking hard enough to fire the round off. I also got a Stebens 30-30 that had a bent barrel. Getting a used firearm is like rolling the dice. and there is no warranty. You buy as is.

Only new for me also, but some via auction. Still, A few of them have had to go back to the manufacturer multiple times. I think it is the same…

I’ve had great success on Gunbroker both selling and buying and I’ve been doing it for decades. You get to rate every person you do business with and build a reputation. Buy only from folks that have a lot of A+ ratings and you won’t have any problems. No one wants to screw up their hard earned reputation. Look at pictures closely and read descriptions in detail and you’ll be fine. The odds of you getting a dud are REALLY LOW.

Unlike many folks there are VERY few new firearms that interest me at all. I got all the SD handguns and black rifles I’ll ever want, and a rather robust battery of quality hunting rifles and shotguns both hunting and sporting. Nowadays I buy used guns almost exclusively because that’s where my interests lie. I prefer custom, old and low production numbers stuff. And I love a good deal and you don’t usually find those at local big box stores.

Because of that I have learned from professional gunsmith friends how to asses the state of a firearm and do some simple tests that will give me 98%+ confidence that a gun is fine or if it needs a minor repair it’s something I can do myself or have a friend do for very little or usually free for me.

Welcome @Steve391.

Good question!

I have bought a few used firearms, but only from a trusted LGS who took them as trade-ins. I was allowed ample time to examine them and the store offers a limited warranty that the weapon is fully mechanically functional. No promises are made regarding accuracy or internal wear, just that at the time of sale it functions as intended by the manufacturer. Haven’t had a bad one yet. I’ve had a few I ended up not liking to shoot but they all worked properly.

I’d keep her. Sounds like she has good taste.

Buying at a gun show can be great but the thing is you have to really know you’re stuff or like you said you can easily get beat. If you’re after a certain gun study it beforehand and find out all about it.
But Gunbroker.com is the best one of all. There’s not a gun you can think of that’s not on there if you know how to look for it …and I’m not one who can but my son sure can , he can find anything on there because that’s where he’s been buying all of his guns for years now. But they have all kinds of things on there like military collectibles and Lugers and everything

I am not sure how guns.com works, but my son bought a used 9mm PCC from them. It was delivered with a muzzle break a 9mm could not pass thru. He contacted guns.com and they covered buying a new pretty expensive Witt Machine break plus shroud.

That’s good that you were covered well but I never heard of them , what I don’t like is finding out that a round won’t go Through the break or comp . The sellers on gunbroker are real concerned about their reputation to mess up very much but anything can happen and it sounds like they took good care of you after the fact

Been together 3 years and she is absolutely my equal. Can’t cook worth a damn but that is OK because I love cooking and the cook get’s to pick the menu so I am always happy at dinner time. Her skill set is prepping which I do, but I don’t have spread sheets and calendar notifications on when items are going to expire within 6 months to move them to the front of use. First time in my life I have been with a woman that said she found ammo on sale and we should buy 1,000 rounds while we can get it at that price.
