Yep. You can purchase the door, locks, and frame as a complete set ready to install as soon as you remove the existing door and frame. Not recommended for rooms with windows (har-har). Last time I checked (about 3 years ago) they ran in the $3500 range. Not really that much for a bad ass entire room gun safe. Problem is they look like a big ass safe, but by now there must be a version that installs behind the existing interior door, which would make it a bad ass hidden wall safe (room).
only thing that might be an issue is the walls? if the kit reinforces the walls then???
otherwise going through the walls to get into you gun room could happen???
I think how you would reinforce the walls depends on how much money you want to spend. Those wall panels shown in the photo are probably aluminum, but Iām sure you could find ones made of steel. Personally, I would build out the walls and ceiling with 3/4" plywood screwed to the studs and then install a rack/storage system. Consideration must also be given to a secure electrical system and temperature/humidity control. I am sure there are companies that specialize in this.
Maybe make a sandwich wall two or three different materials for different purposes, marine plywood inside then either sheet rock for fire protection, maybe diamond plate metal sheets in between.
Then it could double as a panic room, anyone wanting to shoot through all that might need armor piercing bullets, or Barrett .50 caliber BMG ammunition to penetrate, or have a really hard time trying to ax, or hack through all three layers, especially the diamond plate layer.
Donāt make it easy, especially if you are away, and they have time to work at it.
Also, consider reenforcing the back, and side walls too.
If I had a room like that it would be nice and purdy like that for about a week.
#1 Find one that has a key backup
#2 find a 18 + gun safe , If your jurisdiction requires that ammo be locked as well, this helps until the collection of firearms start pushing it out
#3 Find yourself a small safe ( with backup key) that will fit inside a night stand next to bed
#4 Put firearms into safe, Take your EDC and put it into nightstand safe
Now you have something that is quick and now.
You will find that one safe is not enough
