When trying to expand my modest armory of concealed carry micro semi-autos and snubbie revolvers, there is one measurement critical (to me) that seems to be left out of the marketing specs. What is the grip height? That is the distance from the bottom of the trigger guard to the bottom front edge of the grip. The only time I’ve seen it provided in exact inches and fractions was when shopping for larger 3-finger grips for a Kimber revolver. Some A/B diagrams and photo comparisons show inch ruled scales on them, also helpful. If I lay a ruler over the span across middle finger to pinky and compare to the grip length spec, I’d be pretty close to a decision on whether I’d be able to get a secure 3-finger grip on the micro or revolver.
There are variables involving design vs. anatomy. The overall “height” spec of a firearm doesn’t account for the height of the slide, frame, or trigger guard above the grip. The grip height is different on my pistols which are nearly identical in height, and some match up on different height models.
On my dominant hand the three fingers have a 2&1/2" span, and the absolute minimum for control is about 2&3/8", ideally allowing over half of the pinky to engage the bottom of the grip . My “muscle memory” just locks in faster when those fingers seize the grip with no adjusting to a too-short length.
I can compensate with mag extensions and bottom mag plates at the risk of reducing concealability. Publishing the grip height as a spec should help potential buyers connect with a seller’s product if that important dimension is included.
