My dog was wanting out right now and al ot of times he just wants out to be outside. To help me tell the difference I ask him if he will give me a kiss. If he truly needs out to his business he walks over and kisses me. Otherwise he walks off and gives me the look.

My dogs go over to the sliders and sit with their backs against the doors and tilt their head at us and mentally say"Helloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo"
We get the message EVERYTIME! Cat too! They’ve trained us up well
