Even if you cannot find it easily on the shelves today, what is your favorite training ammo for your carry gun? When was the last time you saw it on the shelves?
March 2020 was the last time I have seen my EDC ammo. I have no problem with range ammo because I buy the ammo at the range.
Fiocchi
Magtech.
Sig ammo, and I have not seen it on a shelf since July?? Heck the shelves here have been bare of any ammo for months, and it does not matter if it is an ‘odd’ caliber.
I used the Winchester white box FMJ and Remington green box FMJ 9mm and I have not seen them since the COVID-19 started.
The cheapest brass cased ammo I can find is usually my favorite though I will pay a little more for 147gr 9mm since it more closely matches my preferred SD load. The exception to that is Remington UMC. I bought a bunch of that for a training class a long time ago and found out it was keyholing at 3 yards and couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn with it past 10 yards. Have never touched the stuff since. Fortunately I brought extra ammo from another brand for that class!
Blazer Brass
Lucked out and happened to buy a ton of it before COVID happened.
My favourite is Fiocchi. But Impossible to have it in regular price.
My second choice has been Sellier & Bellot and these are available at my Range for class attendees ($16.99 per box). However these are not on the shelves. Actually there’s no 9mm on the shelves right now
Thanks God I stil have few hundreds rounds bought before WuFlu crisis.
Blazer Brass for me too @RocketPak (in 9mm). Good stuff overall. I have not seen it around here in central Virginia for 3 months. It was rare even before that.
Pre-COVID my preferred range ammo was Federal American Eagle in 124gr 9mm, followed closely by Speer Lawman 124gr 9mm. I’ve run CCI Blazer Brass and it was fine, a little smokier and slightly less accurate. I was very happy with Fiochi as well, but only run a small amount of that.
I ran 124gr for training even though carry is 147gr. I just made sure to run real carry ammo once or twice a year to make sure I was comfortable with the slight change in recoil and POA/POI.
Sellier & Bellot.
I used to try to get Federal 124gr FMJ. I have Federal 147gr HST on my EDC and Federal 124gr HST on my PCC at home.
But now I just reload my own.
I train with the same ammo I shoot, neglibly more expensive, however I am building consistency and muscle memory. Also since I have a lot of it,as I buy throughout the shortages,I’m never out
Federal American Eagle 124gr 9mm. Last found on shelves about six months ago, however 115gr has been sporadically available throughout the pandemic. In two box limits of course. Thankfully a local indoor range apparently has a never ending supply of S&B in 115 or 124 gr for shooters only and they aren’t gouging the price.
