Have you tried any self defense ammo through the gun yet? Might want to do that. I bought my Dan Wesson "Patriot Commander"s awhile ago, field stripped, cleaned and lubed before firing round nose training ammo through them. Had between 300-500 rounds through both before trying them with self defense. Both had feed problems with the hollow point styled ammo. Took a real close look at where the stoppage was and found some very fine milling marks on the feed ramp and in the casing area of the chamber. Took my Dremel with a felt point and some stick polishing compound to these areas and polished lightly until the marks weren’t visible. Cleaned lubed and started again with the self defense. Guess what? The problem was gone, both guns now have over 3,000 each on them and not a single failure even with the cheap steel ammo from Russia!
Hint for newby 1911 buyers; only buy a 1911 in person, rock the slide side-to-side if it tilts on the frame DON’T buy it, stick a slightly smaller than .45 plastic (don’t want to scratch it) rod, pen or what ever down the barrel and see if the barrel moves when in locked position, if it does DON’T buy it.
Happy and safe shooting to you and may you never need to use it for defense.
My son was making fun of me over the Thanksgiving weekend because I have what he calls 3-1/2 1911 pistols and not one of them in the original 45 caliber - oh, well, maybe someday …
There are a couple of good video’s out there on the 1911 and it’s handling that greatly differs from new gun frames. Holstering and not letting the slide slam on an empty chamber.
A few years ago I was blessed with a windfall and purchased a Sig 1911. I was amazed how accurate a firearm it is. Yes it is certainly no glock. I can remember the first few times i disassembled it. sweated trying to reassemble it. it is certainly a high performance piece
1911’s are designed to do two things, hit something within 20 feet (last resort) or throw it at them. Wth approximate same accuracy either way.
Modern 1911’s of course have better accuracy but not much else, you need suspenders to carry one. I’ll keep my Sig’s, I don’t like dog chewable toys either.
I bought my Tisas 1911 45 ACP about a year ago. At first, I was having so many malfunctions that I thought the platform was crap. It turns out that the Tisas is particular when it comes to mags. I had a couple of Kimber mags that were causing malfunctions 2-3 times per full mag. Once I replaced the Kimber mags for something that the Tisas would accept, those problems went away. Love my 1911 now.
Willson Combat is the one that worked for me. I still get an occasional malfunction but the number is much less now. I imagine that Tisas mags would be the best but failing that…
