I carried a 5.56 or 7.62 slip on for personal protection while spearfishing for 20+ years. Never deployed it. Had my share of shark encounters, all were resolved by posturing and aggressive “punchs” from my unloaded speargun. Just like on the streets, they never got aggressive until they knew my speargun was empty
