Not about Chicago particularly. Sign just happens to be there.
It’s my understanding that the small sign universally means that the item illustrated is not allowed. The item prohibited looked familiar…
Items not illustrated are presumably not prohibited. Hard to have a “universally understood” sign if it doesn’t mean what it says.

This is actually IL officalal “Concealed Carry Prohibited Area” standardized sign.
And yes, that is “Beretta 92”

What you are looking at is a “prescribed” No CCW sign.
Notice the citation of the Statute. Legally no other sign is valid.
However since CCW on mass transit is specifically prohibited, does the double negative create a positive?
You can not not carry here?
