@Michael13 I just bought a dryfire magazine for my G21 - it resets the trigger so you don’t have to rack… don’t know much about the MantisX, but there is a Glock no-rack dryfire solution. They have them for other brands as well.
That is great. Thank you Zee. If they make em for the g45 I’ll order tomorrow. That will help a bunch.

G45 is on there, and they say “works with the MantisX” is coming soon
Great I set it up to be notified when they have it. Thank you again Zee.
I dry fire practice 2 to 3 times a week but I use the i-Target Pro (laser bullet in my pistols) this is a great training tool you can use at home. I save on ammo and range time while still improving my skills. I have been using my i-Target for a 1 1/2 yrs. I use the free app & I paid $4.99 for the Quick Draw app. I perform different training drills I picked up from the USCCA on YouTube, along with others like Jerry Miculek and the NSSF. I do drills that I can’t do at the shooting range (like work on quick draw from concealment and timed).
Welcome to the Community, @Walter3!
The iTarget system looks interesting. Love that you use it for your drawing training!

Yes Dawn, that is the i-Target system I have. What is cool about this system is that you don’t have to only use the target it comes with. I hang my targets up and use my iPhone w/ i-Target stand and sometimes with a iPad w/ a stand to have 2 targets to shoot my laser at and keep track of my hits. I have a large room I can train moving. I practice my draw from IWB, OWB and ankle holsters. When I first practiced the quick draw with my IWB but not in concealment, I was in the low to high 3 sec range. Then later on I got my time to the low to high 2 sec range. I was thinking how can I get under 2 seconds, it seamed impossible until I watched one of Kevin Michalowski’s videos where he explained how to point and shoot. Then I finally was under 2 sec w/ 1.92sec. I still am not consistently under 2 sec yet, still working at it. I have to rack the slide every time but I still highly recommend the i-Target system it’s inexpensive and you can get creative with drills.
That sounds like an awesome training tool for you @Walter3! Congrats on the sub-2 sec drawing time! Keep up the awesome training - thanks for sharing the details!
I have been around weapons allmy life, got my first bolt action 22 at about 6 years old and would go hunting to provide meat to have more variety and would go out for 3/4 days at a time with a loaf of bread and salt and pepper, what that meant was that if we didnt kill something,we did not eat when out got where at about 50 yards could shoot the eyes out on a rabbit,we always brought extra food to the table, then in service they taught us to squeeze the trigger and when fired it was supposed to you and you would be on target. That system works very well; for triggerf and flinching.
Like all things, practice and repetition makes for constancy. The more you practice and train, the more efficiency you will develop. A large part of shooting is mental and controlling the “anticipation” of your shot. We dry fired as part of qualifications in the military to train steady trigger pull, dime drills, and all. I have to pay for my own ammo now, so dry firing is an inexpensive alternative to creating repetition. It has it’s place in training if you know when to implement it and you have to force yourself mentally to control the details of squeezing the trigger properly. Consistency in trigger manipulation whether on the range, in self defense, or in combat is key.
Here is a great YouTube video: The Secret to Mastering the Handgun (complete video) - YouTube
I practice with laser snap cap and 3 laser targets 2 are reaction target where in the corners a light will flash and you point shoot the lighted one before it moves to another corner and has one in the center, had my daughter to time me from cold draw to point shooting and average 1.5 sec with double tap .
All I can say is that 4months ago I had an aggressive confrontation no discharge but on the second stop announcement I did not even realize that I had drawn my weapon until it was in the low ready,I was pleased that i was on automatic and my motor function memory worked with out a thought,But he didnt heed my 2 stop commands and continued to approach to with in 5 ft and I then said stop again while I raised my weapon and lit him up with the laser between the eyes, his then realized he made a mistake and and turned and ;left, then when he called the LEO was arrested for Brtandishing a weapon although Wa. has a stand your ground law,the brandishing law completely makes self defense moot, charges were dropped Friday,so I can go back to Tx now
Actually it was 2 people ut was him and his live in girlfriend and their dog,and if you can see the eyes if the person they will show the tell before they do what they are going to do and if there are more than one dont get tunnel vision which is so easy to do but fortunately I did n ot and kept her and the dog in my periodical vbision
Exactly so. Welcome to the group @AntonioA!
This is good practice. There are some that will time your shots… have you seen these? Not cheap but they look like they’d work well

Way cool. I have heard about these, looks like a great tool. I would rather spend money on ammo though and shoot at the indoor range close to me. $247.81 is pretty steep. I can buy 1000 rounds of ammo under $180 dollars for my 9mm Glocks. In the long run if you use it enough, it would pay for itself. . . Cool gadget though.
Also, look at these @AntonioA… this lets you dry fire your firearm without having to rack between “shots”. I have these for my Glock .45 and 9mm, they work great!
Mine are Laserlyte too had them when they first came out, they dont have the sound or digital read outs, and not as expensive I thin k I paid in the neighborhood of $60.00 each for them, the ones I have keeps me up to par in the motor memory functions.
AntonioA, I load my own ammo,so yes I do go to the range to practice shot placement, but I have yet to see a public range that will allow you to practice different defensive moves. I use the laser targets fo motor memory moves that occur with out hesitation, but as the saying goes each to their own.
And yes on another note every thing did go into slow motion as others have said about their confrontation. I kept the woman and dog in my perifical vision as I was was watching his eyes for the tell sign, and when i lit him up with the laser i did notice that my weapon was steady and I was not the least bit nervous or had an adrenaline rush, so the years of training did pay off in my first confrontation, just glad he did not take to the next step.
Sounds like you did it right. And very glad he didn’t.
I am glad he did the right thing too,but all the years of training did really pay off, and if it happens again i know that the training will work for me again., But all the training in the world you do you never know how you will react until you are put in that situation and have to act, I do know that you should train as much as you can.

I’ve watched this video several times already. This would be great prerequisite before taking any handgun classes ![]()
