Could you actually pull the trigger?

“Its A Hell of A Thing, Killing A Man. You Take Away Everything He’s Got and Everything He’s Ever Going to Have.”

Let’s not go and ruin it by thinking too much.

Your decision to save lives was at the cost of those trying to take lives!

Curious Wendell4. How did she react? You got guts. Please don’t get me wrong, I don’t think I’m a freak of nature, but there were a lot of buyers like her since 2020 to date. Personally, something just doesn’t sound right about how easy it is. Knowing I’m probably in the 1% of the minority.

I care so much about accuracy, that I went through about 10 firearms before I found the most accurate one I was with. It costed me financially, but well worth it. Peace of mind for many reasons.

That’s something I hadn’t thought of. I quit using little square targets years ago in favor of the life size photo of a bad guy…but will definitely try the mirror approach.Emoji

How easy what is? Buying a firearm? That depends on what state you live in. Why should it not be easy? Are you a murderer? How easy is it to buy on the black market or steal one? All the laws you expect us to follow, those we arm ourselves against are not following the law, hence the reason for the need for self-defense.

I think they are more than that. The 100 pack of the types of targets mentioned are almost $90. I tried to copy a link but it wont let me. They have many options to choose from.

Asking this question will help you know how/where to Station your “Armed” Security Team Members.

Are you willing to give Your Life for the safety of the Church Body ?

You should also know their Capabilities -
There is “Armed”
Then there is Armed and Competent.
Then there is Armed and Competent AND Willing to give their Life - If necessary.

In a Real Fight:
Accuracy is Necessary,
BUT So is Speed.

In a “Real Fight” they are NOT going to give you time to carefully line up your shot/s.
Lucky if you have 3 seconds to draw and put 3 shots on center at 10ft,

And THAT is how you should practice for a Real Fight.
According to FBI Data on Real Fights.
Critical, Actual Criteria: Accuracy “AND” Speed.

In REAL Fights:
Time is a NECESSARY Consideration/Element of the task.

FBI “RULE OF 3’S”
Most gun fights follow this pattern:

  • 3 shots are fired
  • It Lasts for 3 seconds
  • Takes place inside of 3yds (Say 10ft)

I appreciate your commitment to accuracy but realize if you shoot any gun enough, you will become accurate with it.

I think a lot of people will surprise themselves when or if the time comes. I carry! That is a part of that decision.

If you believe Clint Smith’s wisdom “What makes you think you will fight with the gun you brought?” He’s a big believer in learning to shoot all sorts of platforms as the gun you may fight with is one that you pick up from the ground.

Yep, Clint and Heidi are great folks. I followed them also. I like Clints no nonsense style. Sure would like to attend some of their courses

In many cases 3 seconds would be generous. I have the folks I train work on dry-fire draw to first accurate shot at 2 seconds as a starting point giving them a goal of working down to 1second draw to first shot. ( switching to live fire at a point they feel comfortable doing so) Difficult but doable depending on student’s commitment
I want to stress, when working on their draw, they’re not working on speed so much in the beginning as they are efficiency of motion. With repetition their draw becomes smoother which automatically leads to increased speed. It’s at that point I have them start to push speed ever so slightly. Once shooting starts to get sloppy then I have them back off a little bit and start working up again. So much of shooting speed comes from smooth motion and timing the trigger pull to coincide with extension of the arms.
Constantly stressing the mantra of, “ you can’t miss fast enough to win a gun fight”. Fast is only cool if it comes with accuracy too

An elder sits strategically where he could see everyone who’s walking in. He’s praying for God’s mercy and grace that if he needed to use his firearm, his old eyes would allow him to hit his target.

what got me onto watching YT channels like ASP was the video of a person of a certain racial group wearing a hoodie, came into a fast food joint pointing a gun demanding money. what this individual didn’t know was that there was a WWII vet watching in the seating area. The vet pulled his gun started walking up and dropped the robber dead. Best to think about what I would do in situations similar to this and how to act.

I’m always shocked how fast it happens whenever I see a video taping of an assault. Worse, they use element of surprise.

I agree - 2 seconds is better.
And a Better Goal to work toward.
I “did say” “Lucky” if you get 3 Seconds.

BUT - As you probably know - The average Range shooter “does Not have a clue” and many if not most will Not Get One.
Many if not most will not put in the practice Reps needed/necessary to “Get there”.

So I start with something that is “Do-able” for them then work on more speed.
After say - 500 reps.

The “Key” - to Me - Is 1st - Good/Solid Fundamentals
Grip, Draw, Present.
Then - Say Hundreds of Dry Fire Reps - Practice At Home.
On just the Draw and Present. To Start.
Includes - Sighting, Trigger, etc, then actual shooting.

I call it “Unconscious Competence”
1st Establish good Fundamentals.
Then Practice enough so you “CANT - get it wrong”.
You no longer need to “Think” about what to do or How.
It Just Happens. “Unconscious Competence.”
“THEN” even 1 Second or less is very Do-able.

I work/teach a little different.
I teach full “Defensive Shooting”.
I am retired and just teach people I find who I feel really deserve it.
And those who have heard of me and find me. I dont advertise.

1st Session is Teach/Establish “Fundamentals” of Just - Draw and Present
This includes Stance, Grip, Draw, (Retention Positions), Present to Extension
Sights and Trigger Press.
Send them home to practice 500 reps.
Come back and show me you can do it.
Then we shoot some. After re-covering Alignment, trigger, etc.

Now - Not taking anyone to the range I have not 1st Trained in Solid/No Thinking -
“Gun Control”/Safety and Fundamentals of Shooting.
I teach Many - Free of Charge.
Note - I have been attacked and Shot-at - 3-4 diff times so I know what it is like.

“I” now spend most of My Saturdays Shooting Combat Pistol, Rifle, Multi-Gun Competitions.
Since the 5th time/Actual Attack on “Me” - I will probably “Need to Shoot”.
Thus the Combat Competitions. I don’t want to be Rusty - even a little.
I am 75yo.
AND - It 'looks like" we are ALL going to NEED our skills before much longer.

I’m constantly doing dry fire. Pull, bring the weapon up, establish grip and aim. I’ve noticed an improvement in my shooting too.

So - “DEFENSIVE COMBAT SHOOTING” - THIS IS HOW IT IS DONE:

ps “I” am a State and DHS Certified Pistol Instructor “+”, with Real Life Experience
being attacked and shot-at.

Most likely it “Will Be a Surprise”.
Thieves are basically low-life cowards and don’t want a fight.
But they will Readily, Easily “Kill You” for $5.

This is why, as a Defender, you have to be operating on “Auto Pilot”.
I call it “Unconscious Competence”. You - Don’t have to “Think” about what to do or how.
This is Achieved thru TRAINING in 1ST - Good Fundamentals of Combat Shooting.
Note : 1st - TRAINING in “Combat Shooting” is Essential.

Find a Trainer who teaches “Defensive Combat Shooting”.

THEN - PRACTICE - Based on this Training :
Hundreds if not Thousands of Reps of Draw, Present, Sights, Trigger, etc.
Until you Dont have to “Think” about “What” to do or “How”.
It just “Happens”.
You gun is Out and On Target in say 1 second.
Then - Your only “Decision Point” will be to Actually “Pull the Trigger” - Or Not.
Maybe a Loud Command Warning - “They” are About to be Shot - will work.

Skip either of these Fundamentals - 1 Training, 2 Practice
And you 'Will Likely Fail" - In a Real Fight for your life.

1st You need Training by a Pro to get the Fundamentals Right.
Then Practice those fundamentals - Draw, Present, Alignment, etc - Hundreds if not Thousands of times.
So it becomes “Automatic”. You Don’t have to “Think” - It just Happens.
In “Say” 1 second - Gun is “Out” and “On-Target”.

You can practice Draw, Present, Align Sights - while sitting on your couch watching TV.
Gun UNLOADED - Say 500 Reps - “To Start”.
Unload and holster gun - sit on couch watching TV - Practice Draw/Present/Align Sights.
Do it until you CANNOT GET IT WRONG - YOU DONT EVEN HAVE TO “THINK” ABOUT IT.
It “Just Happens”. ie Auto-Pilot.
Say 500-1,000 reps. of this “To Start”.

A Real Fight:
I have done this before - FOR REAL - Aimed at their head and Announced in Loud/Command Voice:
"STOP RIGHT THERE OR I “WILL” - “SHOOT YOU.”
You would be surprised how effective that can be.
I Stopped - COLD - 4 men with rifles coming at me one night - in the mountains.
And Me with only a 5 shot, Snub, 38spl. :slightly_smiling_face:
ie Let THEM KNOW - YOU are “NOT there to PLAY”.
That - “THEY” Are about to be Shot.

So
1st - Professional Training - In “Fighting” - With a Gun.
ie Defensive Combat Pistol.
Fundamentals of Draw, Present, Alignment, Trigger Control.
NOT your avg Conceal Carry Class .
Way beyond That.

THEN - Practice until you “Cannot get it wrong” - “It just Happens”.
Automatic.

SHOOTING:
“Combat Shooting” vs Flat Range : “Bulls-Eye - Target Shooting”
“Combat Shooting” - A Balance of Both - Speed and Accuracy.
NOT - “Bulls Eye” Shooting - But - “Accurate Enough” - say - every shot inside a 6in circle (High Center Chest).
At say 3 shots/second. At say 15ft.
So - 1 Sec to Draw, 1 Sec to Shoot 3 shots.
2 seconds Total. All 3 shots inside the 6in circle.
Train and Practice this enough and you may get it down to 1 second for - Draw and Shoot 3 Shots “On Target”.

“DEFENSIVE SHOOTING” :
It is a “Balance” of “Speed” AND “Accuracy”.
ie “Accurate Enough” - to “Stop a Threat.”
All shots will Not be “Bulls Eyes”.
BUT ''ACCURATE ENOUGH" To “Stop a Threat”.
It will be the fastest thing “Leroy” has ever seen.

React, draw, and fire 3 rounds for 3 hits in a 6" circle in 2 seconds at 5 yards is pretty fast. Few people I see at the range could do that on a good day (then again few people I see at the range use a shot timer at all)

It’s a good metric to go for, though. And certainly attainable for most everyone who puts the effort in
