Recently it has been brought to my attention and it’s my understanding that scammers are placing some kind of virus, data breach, trogen horse, or some other means of electronic interference on Apps. I hope this is a new topic becauseI have not seen anything similar thus far. It’s my understanding that once these scammers place a bug into an App, it generates all kinds of personal messages, advertisement, threats, games and other messages to lure you into doing something innocent that ultimately comprises your information onto the Dark Web. I am no computer genius (lucky I can find the “on” switch) but the methods these scammers are using in a variety of different methods in personal advertising (selling / buying), fake but duplicated websites such as Amazon and others. I am concerned this very well may be used by nefarious individuals to obtain stolen firearms, trick gun owners into providing some kind of information or creating a time pressured scenario for a gun owner to do something under a fictional FFL. Granted, I do not know of any specific instances when something like this took place. Nevertheless as a retired federal law enforcement agent working undercover investigations there is no end to the sophisticated methods criminals will use to obtain anything of value that will be used against you. A warning for all of us. I know an instructor who was the subject of nefarious person whose only disgusting goal was to use a Red Flag Law against the instructor to enjoy nothing better than getting the instructor in trouble. I am always being alert to some new scam that could be used against good law abiding responsible gun owners. Be safe, take care, and always scam the scammer before they scam you. Michael 2378.
