Last week, I had a comp installed on my HK VP9A1K at the PMM shop in NH to improve accuracy with quick follow-up shots. Today, shot 200 rounds to see which ammo works and observe how the compensator affects the VP9’s performance. Monday: running timed drills to check if my speed has improved.
Adding the comp shifted the VP9’s balance forward. I had to slightly adjust my grip pressure and re-zero my red dot by 5 clicks left and 6 down. The pistol felt noticeably different, and during doubles drills, the dot stayed in the window for the first time—even at rapid fire—all A-zone hits at 10 yards. Out of 50 rounds of 115-grain Republic ammunition, there were 2 failures; all 124-grain training ammunition performed well. With 75 rounds of 124+P Federal ammunition, recoil was minimal, and accuracy was on point, especially at 15 yards, demonstrating the comp’s effectiveness.
Overall, I like the comp I will need to train and spend some time to get used to all the little nuances. I will be taking a Runenation class in November, excited to put the comp to the test.
I bought a Canik TTI (has a Comp.) and had 30% Failure to Fire with 115 and 124gr and about 10% with 147gr.
I contacted Canik and they shipped to me a “standard” recoil spring. Replaced spring and 0 Failures in 12 months with any/all weights of ammunition.
Canik stated that the original recoil spring was for “competition” ammo. I looked at all of their marketing info., online and printed, and could not find any warning that the TTI was set up for competition ammunition only.
