Compensators on EDC Pistol

Last week, I had a comp installed on my HK VP9A1K at the PMM shop in NH to improve accuracy with quick follow-up shots. Today, shot 200 rounds to see which ammo works and observe how the compensator affects the VP9’s performance. Monday: running timed drills to check if my speed has improved.

Adding the comp shifted the VP9’s balance forward. I had to slightly adjust my grip pressure and re-zero my red dot by 5 clicks left and 6 down. The pistol felt noticeably different, and during doubles drills, the dot stayed in the window for the first time—even at rapid fire—all A-zone hits at 10 yards. Out of 50 rounds of 115-grain Republic ammunition, there were 2 failures; all 124-grain training ammunition performed well. With 75 rounds of 124+P Federal ammunition, recoil was minimal, and accuracy was on point, especially at 15 yards, demonstrating the comp’s effectiveness.

Overall, I like the comp I will need to train and spend some time to get used to all the little nuances. I will be taking a Runenation class in November, excited to put the comp to the test.

Training ammo

124 gr, Blazer and New Republic

Seem to recall a claim that a comp is usually tuned to a specific ammo bullet weight???

and they can have small issues with lesser or greater bullet weight???

so after trying you new comp please share what you find with us all… thanks

@OldDude49: I think that you are correct.

I bought a Canik TTI (has a Comp.) and had 30% Failure to Fire with 115 and 124gr and about 10% with 147gr.

I contacted Canik and they shipped to me a “standard” recoil spring. Replaced spring and 0 Failures in 12 months with any/all weights of ammunition.

Canik stated that the original recoil spring was for “competition” ammo. I looked at all of their marketing info., online and printed, and could not find any warning that the TTI was set up for competition ammunition only.

FWIW.

I have one on my Springfields full loaded - .45 ACP and it works like a charm.

I have been thinking of getting a red dot on it! Too much?

Well, just from an aesthetic point of view, a red dot would “change” the lines of a classically beautiful, gorgeous gun you have there!

All reloads or reman ammo

Too much BS for me. Comp. for Competiton, Open sights for EDC. Makes for a more difficult draw. KISS.

Unless the comp is milled into the barrel and slide. CZ hit it out of the park with the P-10C Ported

Looks like CZ has another winner.

And, Chris is knowledgeable and not afraid to share his considered opinion. In short, he is awesome!

Can’t wait to get mine.

EDIT: I currently have the CZ P10c, and it’s a nail driver. I can only imagine what a true compensation will add to its ability.
