Carrying in a casino

I do love it when some air bag wants to correct me because I wasn’t entirely right…well airbag, Virginia is a state where no gun signs must be adhered to.

Va. Code Ann. § 18.2-308.01. Carrying a concealed handgun with a permit. C. The granting of a concealed handgun permit pursuant to this article shall not thereby authorize the possession of any handgun or other weapon on property or in places where such possession is otherwise prohibited by law or is prohibited by the owner of private property.

However, I love that you go on to talk about Indiana only to show it doesn’t apply. Thank you so much for adding a point that’s pointless.

Generally speaking all, know your local and state laws surrounding gun rights and know any states you might be travelling to if you plan to cross the borders. Don’t need anyone carrying legally and happen to drive onto a reservation or into another state where you’re no longer legal.

Erik,
You are right, I was rude and. I apologize.
My concern was that readers in states where the signs carry force of law think that they have the same situation as Indiana.

Why are there prohibitions on Casinos. The reason I am asking here we can carry in places where alcohol is served, Of course if a person is carrying it is 0 tolerance. So my real ? is there something more specific to a Casino that mandates such rules.

As a Personal rule I never carry where booze is served. And since I think gambling is stupid you wouldnt catch me in a casino.

Yeah I get that. Its been many years since I have drank while out. For myself I am a believer if am carrying it is 0 tolerance for me as a personal requirement. So its sweet tea for me even in a restaurant

There was one thing that got me a ways back. We had a mall near us in Va. It came under new management at that time. There was poster with the rules of the mall on it. And in real fine print it said no CCW. You have to walk up up to and get real close to read it. Also some of the individdual businesses had their own entrances to mall. With that the other mall entrances had no signs to that effect. So i continued to carry. And then later another owner took it over sign was change removing that once again. note there were no signs on the main entrance doors

I suspect the reason casino’s have a no firearms policy is because they are a high-risk location for burglary, and they have their own security (mostly concealed). If there is a burglary and all the ccw’s decide to draw, it makes it more difficult for security to distinguish friend from foe.

I believe the high end casinos/hotels in Vegas also have firearm restrictions, but if you are a guest of the hotel they will hold your weapon and you can retrieve it to go out of the casino/hotel. BTW they have some sort of “metal detectors” at the doors that are not visible. You’ll walk in and quickly get escorted by security to “handle” your firearm.

Again, this comes down to the location you’re talking about and the specific laws surrounding them. An example, most Indian Reservations have different laws than the state they’re in. So you might find that your concealed carry covers all of the state, but not the Indian reservation. Casinos might be considered under that same reservation law so it’s best you check with the laws for those areas you’re planning to go to rather than trust someone who’s laws may be different than where you’re talking about. Bottom line, do your own due diligence and learn the local laws. You are responsible for your actions so if you try and plead ignorance, you’ll find it doesn’t get you far.
