Best Universal Gun Oil in 2026 – Any Recommendation for Me?

:ok_hand:

However even this one is too thick for 2011 handgun :slightly_smiling_face:

Maybe we should be asking which oils/lubes NOT to buy!

I’ll roll up my sleeves and get serious…even though we’ve had this thread a bunch of times before.

I don’t know any hybrid 2011 handgun

thanks for clarifying. I have noticed a lot of people seem to recommend #9 as well in this thread. Have you tried it yourself, or have you always stuck with Mobil 1?

#9 is a god choice. It has been a great product for decades.

You cannot go wrong with original #9, but if you shoot high end firearms with tight fits you should go with Hoppe’s Black.

That sounds like a fair way to look at it. #9 definitely seems to have earned its reputation over the years. I will have to look into Hoppe’s Black as well especially for tighter fitted firearms. Have you personally noticed a big difference between the two?

too bad that Mobil 1 does not come in a spray can    [awesome stuff]

Yes. But all is about maintenance.

My 2011 and 1911 handguns work smoother with thin oil (Hoppe’s Black) and require less cleaning because that oil “travels” easily between tight connections of metal parts and carbon doesn’t stick to them. So this is perfect if you don’t like to clean firearms often.

But… to be honest I found my “to-go” lube. Works better for me and can be applied to all my firearms. And it’s not a Hoppie’s product :zipper_mouth_face:

Haha fair point :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: A spray can version would probably make application a lot easier. Seems like Mobil 1 has a pretty loyal following here.

That makes sense, appreciate the detailed explanation. The point about thinner oil moving better through tight tolerances and reducing carbon buildup is interesting. Sounds like you’ve found what works well for your setup. Now i am curious though… what is your go-to lube? :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Take in a couple of tablespoons, good for the tummy what things aren’t moving too well.

What not to buy?
In my experience, 3 in 1, and WD-40 are the most disappointing

Totally agree. CLP is a good choice for quick cleaning and lubing, not so good for regular maintenance.

I use CLP wipes to clean only. Lube only fluid is the best to keep your firearm in working condition forever.
