BB, Pellet, or Air Soft Guns - What ya got?

Nice rig!

I ended up buying an Air Venturi Rovair compressor. So far, I’ve been pretty pleased with it, but it doesn’t have a lot of time on it yet, so I’m by no means advocating for it. Skeptical because of its country of origin, but the price point was attractive and reviews were pretty good. The Hatsan and Air Force have big tanks, so the manual pump was pretty much a no-go after a few fills.

Depending on the fittings, it would seem you could refill PDQ with a whip off a SCUBA tank?

This would be pretty economical for me since I have 3 tanks rated at 104 ft3 @ 3500 psi. Many shops will fill them to 4000 psi if they get to know you  You would have to do a cost trade off vs. the compressor since SCUBA tanks require a visual inspection (VIP) annually to get them refilled. VIP is usually a couple bucks. Other than the initial tank investment and VIP(s), a hydrostatic test is required every 5 years. Hydro can run from $20 to $80 every 5 years depending on the going rate in your area.

Edit: you can overrun the VIP and Hydro times if the tank sits without refilling past annual VIP or 5 year Hydro. Most tanks will remain serviceable for decades as long as you keep some pressure in them.

I am odd in that I always read manuals. I have already read this one, but dry fire is not mentioned.

My interest is for adjusting the trigger. YouTube gave me an answer, PCP with no air is the only design safe to dry fire, so pound some pellets into the berm adjusting that trigger the way you want it.

Decided to not edit the original post to add that my Hatsan is a tack driver!

9 shot string at 25 yards, my pressure fell off on the last 3 which is why they trailed off high right….

The first six all fit under a quarter tho! Not gonna complain about that at all.

Damn those lizards are beautiful. Shame they’re invasive.

SCUBA tanks will work and are commonly used, but there are no SCUBA shops within reasonable driving distance for me. I checked into it before investing in a compressor. We had a SCUBA shop about 30 years ago, but it has long since closed. Our only local diving opportunities are a few freshwater lakes, so I imagine demand wasn’t sufficient to support the business.

You did the trade study and your decision makes sense. :+1:

If anyone knows of a .25 caliber break barrel air rifle brand or model, I’d be interested in researching it down. I’ll also check with Crossman and GAMO.

Not any .25 break barrels that I’ve noticed, but I’ve never particularly looked for that caliber…… .22 are everywhere,

Guess they’re more common than I had noticed!

Norica has several offerings in .25 that I didn’t link.

The model I just bought is available in 25:

It seems as though Hatsan, as well as Gamo, make a variety of affordable.25 caliber break barrel rifles. You may be interested in checking out Airgun Depot for a thorough array.

We also have these invasive curly-tails:

Although I have not seen any migrated onto the island where I live yet.

Regardless, the pellet gun arrived in good condition today :+1:

Plans were to take it out to the range tomorrow, but a cancellation for medical testing just opened up for me tomorrow … what can I say, priorities

Edit: the scope does not look as bad as described, especially considering the overall cost of the rifle and scope combo is less than a Vortex 30mm mount only. I was getting a little skeptical performing initial focusing. It seemed like it took about 15 full revolutions from the as delivered position before it came into focus.

Just noticed this morning, build date is 09/22. Not alarming, but surprised it sat in stock 2-1/2 years.

Thanks. I will certainly check em out, even go visit the stores.

Quick update - medical testing confirmed I need revision carpal tunnel surgery as well as ring finger A1 pulley release in dominant hand.

Initial impressions are it is really nice looking and much heavier than expected. My wife believes there will be Police interaction when I carry it into the front yard! Maybe I should put some red tape on the barrel?

I do not feel like going to the range right now, so decided a 2-1/2 year old gun needs at least a gas piston test. The initial “brake” release of the barrel proved more challenging than I expected. Once “broken” I discovered the obligatory massive quantity of lube on the breach (internet data). After cleaning the huge globs off the breach and swabbing down the barrel, it was ready to shoot the ground in the back yard. Fortunately charging the piston is a lot easier than breaking the breach loose. There was no honking nor other strange noises coming from the piston. Loaded a pellet and fired it into the ground. It is amazingly quiet compared to my expectations from internet reviews - maybe because I cleaned it prior to shooting.

Hopefully I will feel better in a couple days and go zero the scope at the range.

RWS Dianawerke .177. Single break action zips a .177 pellet at 1200 fps. My Dad killed a groundhog with it at 18 yards (shot between the eyes)

I’m partial to the .20 cal Sheridan Blue Streak.
.20 cal should be more than adequate for lizards, and if not, and they charge you,
the wooden stock makes a decent club wielded Alamo style
