Had kind of a weird question but does anyone know of a good EDC Bible? I’ve got a nice NKJV version I read from but the backpack I carry doesn’t exactly fit it if I’ve got other stuff in there and definitely not when I put the G19 in the carry pocket. I’ve seen some on Amazon but figured I’d check in the USCCA community since I’m like 99% positive ya’ll might have some good recommendations lol
Edit: Before any suggests Bible apps I’ve already got one lol Don’t get me wrong I like being able to access it but there’s nothing like having a physical copy. Not just of the Bible either I can’t adapt to the whole eBook thing.
Only one thing to say here, if I were to get one I could carry, I’d need to carry a magnifying glass to read the small print. Also not sure I can turn the small pages without tearing them. Also highlighting is a challenge. I got used to the app, and anytime the old eyes get tired, I can expand the print size. And it’s just one more thing to carry which means it’s one more thing to carry. I know it’s not the answer you wanted, but for me, and I’m up there in age, it’s the most viable option.
If you are not familiar with them, investigate Fresnel Lens magnifiers, often called page readers. They are flat plastic, with scribed lines in them. Great for laying flat oni teh book in your bag.
No worries! I’m not there yet but I know one day using a computer for work constantly and probably just reading a lot in my down time will take it’s toll. My grandma was a big reader and did the same with a Kindle clear up until the day she passed away! I will say highlighting and notes is a nice feature for apps.
One more thing to add about the right app. I can listen to it while doing other things. I can play it to the car or to my hearing aids, in your case ear buds, which is a nice option.
I probably should start doing that on my commute to work. Usually I plug into like Real Americas Voice or something like that since I’m addicted to news and politics streams lol That is a good plus to good apps though. I’m just old enough to remember seeing those multi-cassette tape sets of audio Bibles at the local Christian stores. Man how things have changed lol
Hmmm, tactical Bible, I never thought about tactical versions of spiritual texts. I wouldn’t mind a copy of the Tao Te Ching and some Buddhist scriptures!
I actually didn’t think about looking up Tactical Bible! I tell my wife all the time that if you want to make some extra cash just come up with an everyday object and add the word Tactical too lol That’d actually be pretty cool though! You might be able to find a nice pocket edition of the Tao Te Ching not sure about the Buddhist scriptures since I’m not all that familiar with them though. Worth looking I’m sure!
All I had to do was walk through a college campus, and someone handed me a free 3" x 5" Gideons Bible (New Testament Psalms Proverbs). It’s been in my car console for 15 years now.
They seem to go for $10 or less online (yet some say sales are illegal, and you need to receive one from a Gideon).
Most Gideon Bibles are KJV (King James version) which is a great translation, but most people today hesitate to spend much time reading Shakespearean English. But a lot of people enjoy the beauty and flow of English from that era. Gideons does distribute Bibles in newer translations. The key is to READ it, and almost al of it is clear, then LIVE BY what you understand. Walk into a store and look for a pocket-sized (actually, many variations on sizes, too) of a modern translation, and check out how you like the reading.
Yeah easy carry would be about right. I didn’t actually think about the Gideons. Might have to loo online and see I can find one. I had a pocket edition years ago but have no idea what I did with it.
The most valuable resource I found for myself was the original 1611 KJV which shows the interpretation and application to everyday life below the text. It is in large print with the original text at the top and the application / explanation below. Huge and expensive, but worth it’s weight in gold. Not a carry-around Bible, but invaluable to understand God’s Word. I am checking the interpretation with several other books and finding it quite accurate. Loaded with illustrations, maps, and more: KJV Life Application Study Bible
The Armed Services Ministry has Military Challenge Edition in ESV translation that I have a copy of. it’s 4.25" x 6" x 1.125" and is the full 66 books with maps, index, and a few more appendices. They give them away at Armed Services Chaplin centers.
