Continuing the discussion with @James1330 from the introduction thread:
James1330 wrote - “The Supreme Court allowed the 2nd amendment to apply to civilians in 2008 Heller case. The 2nd amendment was adopted in 1791. It was written to “establish a well regulated militia.” The author of the 2nd amendment never intended for it to apply to the civilian population. The framers of our Constitution were very smart men and assumed that civilians had the right to own firearms in this new country.”
I believe that in 2008 the Supreme Court interpreted that the authors of the 2A clearly intended it to apply to the People. Not to people in the militia. The militia part is a prefatory clause giving one of the reasons why THE PEOPLE have a right to keep and bear arms. Anti self defense folks love to ignore the comma in that sentence.
But @James1330 you seem to like having the ability to defend yourself with your SCCY. Do you believe that ability is a privilege granted to you by the State and/or federal government and not a right affirmed by the 2A?
But as @James1330 points out above - The founding fathers were very smart men. Which is why I believe they wrote the 2A in a way that clearly gives the right to keep and bear arms to THE PEOPLE and not to a well regulated militia that benefits from having a well armed populace to call on in times of need.
So because I disagree I must be nuts? In what way are my arguments insane? I have politely listened to, assessed and interacted with your arguments without making any judgements on the state of your mental health. Which I assume is perfectly fine despite our differing opinions. Are you unwilling to give my point of view a fair hearing? Or is the only form of conversion you can accept as intelligent one in which everyone agrees with your point of view?
Second, because you probably skipped all “Terms of Service” … you will have to call USCCA at 877-677-1919… but please, please, please be nicer to them than you were to us… otherwise they may not allow you to leave the Community before you make it somehow better than you found it.
While there are likely more than a few Trump supporters here I personally think every member of this forum is likely way smarter than Trump.
But if you want to return to the safety of your own personal confirmation bias bubble you can click on your image, then the little person symbol then preferences and change the notification and email settings so you will not get informed of responses to your posts. That would allow you to speak freely without having to listen to anyone else’s views in return.
So what I am hearing you say Cuppycake. Is that basic sentence structure using grammatical English rules is beyond you. I kind of figured it was. Nice to know. I will try not to use any multi syllabic words… Right after this post.
