Since we’re drifting here a little bit on the topic, tell me what y’all think.
Does anybody here change targets regularly? Kind of like exercising, if you do the same routine over and over your body gets used to it and stops building muscle mass and you lose conditioning. How often do you change the style of what you target looks like?
Edit: or your routine of how you shoot? Standing still, moving laterally, on one knee, longer distances….

I stopped shooting from the booth long time ago. It doesn’t have any sense to me anymore. Maybe I do this once or twice a year to test ammo or new equipment.
Targets? I do have few favorite and I’ve been using them all the time, however I do a lot of training with different Instructors and they all use different target styles.
Anyway… different targets, but constantly both eyes open.

I’m going to go out today and shoot simply because it’s going to be 94 here today. As many here have said; go out with a goal in mind of what you want to achieve. I think today for me is going to be weak hand, changing distance and accuracy. As with all my training now, I will be working on deliberate shots instead of rapid fire.

I’ve been shooting with both eyes open for so long I don’t remember what inspired me to do so. Along the way I have encouraged family and friends to do the same. Not everyone got on board with it.
As I have moved from one decade of my life to the next, my eyesight is gradually diminishing. I’m right eye dominant, but unfortunately, it is degrading more than my left. I have tried transitioning back to shooting with one eye closed (my right) and it is proving to be very difficult. I still shoot much better with both eyes open.

I am cross eye dominant when handgun shooting. It just takes a slight head tilt and slight shift of my presentation to get the handgun lined up with my dominant eye but I have no issue shooting with both eyes open.
If you are now left eye dominant you might want to try this instead of one eye closed. It would be more difficult for you to switch eyes since you have decades of muscle memory for lining up with your right one. But it is doable. You might try putting some wax paper or otherwise clouding up the right lens of your shooting glasses. This will force you to line things up with your left eye while still letting you keep both eyes open. Save the ammo and try this out with dryfire and preferably a trigger activated laser cartridge or sirt pistol first.
Edit to add: If you are still shooting better with both eyes open you might not need to change anything. Your eyes may be adapting to your new condition on their own. None of us can expect to be as good as we were in our primes as our bodies age.
One other suggestion I would give is to check out some of Mike Ox’s vision training exercises. They are designed to help strengthen the eyes and the eye/brain connections. He and Chris often have links to each others training programs.

Here is a brief video with Mike Ox. He mentions a link to a more in depth video he is doing on vision training.
