A Maryland school official called the police on an 11-year-old boy after the teacher reportedly saw a BB gun in the child's room during virtual instruction

I guess I would let them in. I don’t see any problem since the parents had not violated any law. Refusing to cooperate would only escalate the situation. To each his own I suppose.

Libel, slander, invasion of privacy?

Just guessing. Maybe just to torment the school so they know they over stepped the bounds?

My daughter wears shooting t-shirts to school and Zoom school.

If cyber schools are considered the same as a classroom, as was stated by the school, it is illegal (here in illinoid) for anyone in the schools to take pictures, video, voice recordings without the students/parent permission. The teacher took a picture of the student and passed it on.
Not to mention calling the cops before calling the parent.
That’s all. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Here in NY when they show up at my house they already know I have guns (gotta love how they tie it all together). So there’s one mark against me in the system. Them showing up is another mark. If I let them in, they might see my home defense gun in the corner of the room. Then a discussion of “safe storage” would ensue. And that is where it gets fun because none of my guns are locked up. I have 3 loaded stashed around my house and all family members know this and know how to shoot. That in my mind is safe. Not in NY though. https://safeact.ny.gov/gun-owners

“A: You are required to safely store a gun when a person less than sixteen years of age has access to it. You are also required safely store your gun if you live with someone who has been convicted of a felony or domestic violence crime, has been involuntarily committed for mental health reasons, or is currently under an order of protection.”

My daughter is 15.

So, no. I am not going to let them in without a warrant because that gives me time to move them. everyone in my house knows to refuse an officer entry unless they have a warrant.

At the time of writing this, I have 1 disassembled gun on my desk in addition to the 3 rifles in bags next to my desk. All are waiting to be cleaned. I’m sure they would have a field day with that.

It’s generally not a great idea to let an officer in your house unless you need help or they have a warrant. I say that as a law abiding citizen who appreciates law enforcement and tries to be courteous and helpful. Once you let an officer in, you’re basically consenting to a search. Even Officer Friendly can spot an issue in most houses.

You would lose based on the laws requiring schools to report certain circumstances. As to harassing the school, that seems pretty juvenile. Are you sure you are mature enough to carry/own a firearm?

So you openly admit to violating NY safe storage laws?

I am not going to duspute that children generally should not be trusted to be left with firearms alone, but…I am glad this hadn’t happened in NYS, would be a tragic story.

Two Questions to this William220. When was the Law in Maryland made? And secondly, Did you vote on it?

I know I will sound preachy when I say this but you have hit the nail on the head. We all have seen it and we all have done it. I gave my sons and daughters a 22 when they were 11 years old. Taught them the proper safety procedures and how to maintain the weapon. They have never had an incident what caused a problem.

All USCCA members must be active in letting their representative KNOW that they will not allow panic to force the federal and state governments to place a law on the books that will place shackles on your wrists. And your children. I can say my children have grown up with the healthy respect for guns but the best thing I can say for my kids is they have the responsibility to stand up for their actions and KNOW that the use of a firearm to end a dispute is not the end but just the begining of the trouble.

To answer your two question, 1-don’t know. 2- No, don’t live in that state.
Actually my comment was mostly for Michael7 based on what he had said prior to my comment. I was just commenting on what the statue said after I looked it up.
