Why should I buy expensive ammo for daily carry?

I keep my ammo in a safe, with a temperature and humidity transmitter, so I can tell from my desk the temperature and humidity. The inside of the safe stays at a pretty constant 70-71 degrees and 47% humidity year round. We’re in Florida, so I figure both numbers are pretty good.

Wow! Not only have I been out “ammoed” but @OldGnome has humidity sensors in his ammo vault!

lucky gunners where I look for all carry ammo. I carry Fed HST in my carry gun, but I carry a Shield so one box fills my gun and an extra mag. I will also use Sig V ammo.

If you really want to run a lot of rounds I believe Winchester makes a line of carry ammo that is also accompanied by range ammo. So you can basically simulate shooting the carry ammo a bit cheaper.

I have to shoot at least a full magazine of carry ammo before I will load the gun up for self defense, BUT I’m pretty confident that my shield will eat up whatever I get it!

I carry Sig Elite Performance 124 grain. It’s affordable, but it’s good stuff. I think anyway.

Is anyone else thinking about burying a steel storage container next to the basement wall and putting a gun safe door on it?
Guns and ammo storage, man cave, etc. etc.
You can get a 40’ container for $2-4 K,
Things that make you go hmmmm.

Indeed. Now you’ve got me thinking.

Half of this video is Paul talking about cheaper carry ammo vs. Expensive. Really interesting.

By the way—Joke in its best!

I don’t like fancy stuff storing my guns (electronic wise) “IF” GOD forbid a EMP was used on us regardless of how (Please Lord…protect us from our enemies both foreign & domestic)…

Those type devices could possibly be affected!!!

We need like a “DZ” if crap ever hits the fan!
[I laugh but serious]

I would want to make sure each one of you was okay as well as go through fire and brimstone to assure you were. Plus—I’ll be needing some ammo as you can see :joy:  :fire: :mountain: :volcano: :us: :us: :us: :us: :us:

Following up … thanks to everyone who responded to my original question; the discussion has been great! Based on your feedback, I realized a couple of things. First of all, it does make sense to spend more on the ammo I’m going to carry every day. Since I won’t be going through large quantities of that ammo (after initial testing to make sure it works well in my Springfield XD-S and XD Mod.2), it won’t require a substantial investment. Secondly, I can get ammo at a much better price through some of the online sources you folks recommended. I ended up buying from SGAmmo.com. The Federal Premium HST was $30 for 50 rounds (compared to $25 for 20 rounds at the gun shop), and other premium types of ammo were similarly priced. The shipping was $12, but that cost was the same for up to seven boxes, so I bought a box of Gold Dot and 5 boxes of range ammo. I now feel like I have better options and a much clearer path forward. Thanks again!

Wow–now you have me thinking about my liberty safe’s electronic keypad. Argh.

Make sure any electronic safe you get has a key/manual backup method of entry and you should be good to go

Randall318Sir, you said something that was included with your message written here. You asked, " Please Lord…protect us from our enemies both foreign & domestic", You did the correct thing,

by asking GOD for that help. HE desires to help you and HE is able to do all things, above all you ask for and are unable to do. HE LOVES YOU !

Oh man that would have been the cats meow when I had to back fill a 30 by 40 sink hole alongside my home ten years ago. Would have been real easy to slip it under the mud room and laundry. Cover the remainder under the concrete one lane I had poured down to the boat garage.

My thought is any ammo you are going to use in your ccw you should always run 2 or 3 mags through but I have learn that with a little more expensive ammo there is less wear and tear on you gun and a lot easier to clean and I would rather spend a little more on ammo and less on repairing gun

Amen & thank you! I NEEDED to be reminded that!

One scripture that comes to mind is found in the second book of Peter & I’ll paraphrase for time sake.

God is not [evil] and not willing any should perish but [long-suffering] that all would come to repentance (2 Pet. 3.9).

God wants a relationship with us all! Hence “made in his image”
