Makes sense. Mine are the older S&W pens without the glass break.
Seems silly, but I guess if I were making a list of no-no items for a plane, a tool claiming to break windshields might make the list.

Yea, I found out, they told me as much. I got frustrated with them and ended up just telling them to pitch them in the trash, had to borrow a set for the competition.
Haven’t lost anything to the TSA ![]()
I would need to consult a lawyer before commenting any further.
Years ago when I forgot to put a pocketknife in my checked bag, I was told I could recall my checked bag. I am surprised that was not provided as an option for you.

Which route you choose then?

Maybe because it wasn’t years ago.
In the slightly less intrusive times, I was also offered opportunities to go put “objectionable” items into checked luggage (who remembers checked luggage?) or just put into a small box and checked through to my destination.
That was well before the Patriot Panic. Now the options seem to be:
Present with an item declared contraband, and one or more of these options will be selected for you.
Radiation.
And they missed some stuff.
Interesting, I have never been given that option. Once I was allowed to mail an item home (expensive shipping but cheaper than buying a new multitool). Other than that, my options have always been leave something behind or miss my plane.
Shampoo and Cologne (Expensive cologne). Both went in the trash. After I got home I looked it up, the one ounce bottle was well under the 3 ounce limit.
It seems to vary based on the airport. I am near Milwaukee, WI and have not had mine taken by them yet. It seems to be some of the bigger airports and can also probably vary based on the TSA agents who are there at the time.
There have been a few times when I’m convinced I was within the regulations, but I haven’t heard many success stories from travelers who tried to argue their case to the TSA. I can either get on the plane or keep my widget.
That’s what I’ve noticed, too. Never had any issues in my local airport or in smaller airports. When stuff is taken from me, it’s usually at the bigger airports. I don’t know if their agents are trained differently, they have different equipment, or if they just act differently because they work at busy airports.

Uooops
They confiscated my nail clippers. Said it was a potential weapon! REALLY???
Well we all know that with some nail clippers, a rubber band and a piece of gum, McGuyver could bring down a plane!! ![]()

True!

The only time I almost lost something was the first time I went on a cruise I didn’t know they are like airports.I had my pocket knife on and got caught but the security guard said I will be on duty the day you get back give it to me and see me when you get back. I saw them when I got off the ship walked up to them they reached into their pocket and gave me my knife back.
They must know you personally… I would not trust you; they had an excuse… you are dangerous… you are armed and knowledgeable. ![]()
