What would you get

I’m sure it does. I’m also willing to wager it’s a hell of a lot easier to post a video of profession doing it, than to do it ourselves. And, doing it with a semi auto with a cope will be far easier than a bolt with irons.

Out there in the real world talking about SHTF and the like, being “really fast for a bolt” doesn’t really count for much when “slow for a semi is still faster”, and semis are everywhere

I built an AR that I could hunt with in Virginia. It is chambered in 6.5 Grendel. It is a good intermediate round that is right between the 5.56 and the .308 in terms of power. The Grendel gives you a lot of range and flexibility from the AR 15 platform. It is quite accurate and has a recoil impulse that is only slightly more than the 5.56.

In a true SHTF situation, being able to find ammo for the 6.5 Grendel will be a real problem. Hell, it’s hard to find good rounds now. A person will hopefully have a much better chance in finding .308 rounds than other options in a SHTF environment.

It is for this reason and obviously others that I will, one day, build or buy an AR 10 chambered in .308. It will offer me the long range punch one needs and still be a very capable and potent battle rifle, augmenting my AR 15s and my existing .308 bolt guns.

Exactly why when some of my shooting friends said “why do I need one” I said “because everyone else has one” your pistols and pump shotgun cannot compete. :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes yes

And even if ‘they’ don’t…having the most effective tool possible is not a bad thing

To steal an image from the May-June (current) issue of Concealed Carry Magazine…the semi auto rifle is the one on the far right

This from SGM Lamb. He mentions not picking his bolt gun in 6.5 Creedmoor due to SHTF ammo availability, despite it’s clear popularity. He picks the .308 for the same reasons we discussed.

Another AR10 .308 to hit the market lately is the Springfield Saint Victor.

Just one gun period is a pretty different thing.

When I travel I often bring only one gun, logically I think any answer other than the only one I take when I travel (by airplane) would not be the proper answer.

So, a 9mm handgun. Right now, my EDC and travel and take with gun is a G17.5 w/RMR so that would be my just one gun. But, a G19 would probably make more sense to slightly increased concealability and better magazine and holster compatibility

A bolt action or a niche/rare cartridge like 6.5 wouldn’t even be open for discussion as an only gun

Indeed. I agree. Just not a good idea.
