Trump pivots from bashing Mamdani, predicting he will ‘do a great job’ as mayor

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2025/11/21/trump-mamdani-oval-office/

Trump repeatedly stuck up for Mamdani as the mayor-elect faced pointed questions from the press corps, at one point urging him not to bother explaining to reporters why he had called Trump a fascist, and at another point defending the climate-conscious politician’s decision to take a plane, rather than a train or bus, to Washington.

“We agree on a lot more than I thought,” Trump said. “I want him to do a great job, and we’ll help him do a great job.”

Listen I have zero idea on if Mamdani is going to be successful or if he will tank, I have scrutinized his plans and I think some may work and some are pie in the sky. His plan to open Government run grocery stores in New York food deserts is an idea I think every city planner would not mind implementing other than there is a reason there are food deserts, those living there are impoverished and shrinkage is going to be out of control. However if these grocery stores only carry produce, dairy and meats it could prevent theft of items that have longer shelf life’s and resell value. But honestly, it would probably be cheaper and more successful to open Food Banks subsidized by the city of New York in those areas.

Now what I don’t understand is how Trump can go from calling this guy a Communist to shaking his hand and congratulating him on his win. Trump is to much of a populist where he changes his direction based on opinion. These are the opinions of right leaning publications for sure, but it’s stuff like this and his recent conversation with the Governor of Oregon that makes my head explode. Telling Tina Kotek that his whole reason to send troops to Oregon was based on videos he saw on Fox News, wtf? And after seeing the videos coming out of Portland with Portlanders making him look silly, he sees the error in what he was doing, again WTF? Not sure about you all, but I prefer a President who doesn’t make decisions based on what he sees on TV. He has access to a plethora of the greatest intelligence this country has to offer but watches TV to come up with his decisions. Anyways this won’t have any impact on the opinions of those who worship at the alter of Trailer Park Scientology, you know the WWG1WGA crazies.

Watching the Q/A interview every time he said something nice like “I think he’ll do a great job” he looked like his skin was crawling.

He’s the president, he needs to at least try to be political when it’s necessary.

We will see what happens moving forward.

So far, I’m still pretty happy with my president!:smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

If you have financial business in the area would you beat on a bees nest to piss them off or would you avoid shaking the nest and keeping the bees happy?

Trump is like W.C. Fields with the attitude of “never give a sucker an even break.” Trump is a business man and deal maker. When this is all over, there will be the suckers and the winners, and Mamdani won’t know what hit him.

I get the impression that people think President Trump is supposed to discriminate against Mayor Mamdani. Discrimination is not a virtue. President Trump is a smart compassionate man. I do not put him down for not trying to achieve my agenda.

You don’t understand how TACO could do an about-face?

Soooo,…

You missed the last year of his presidency?

Jobs are up, energy is down, billions of dollars coming IN to the American economy…

Yeah, he’s gonna be cordial with the soon to be mayor of NY.

We held a cordial presentation when Japan surrendered at the end of WWII.

What does that have to do with the speed and frequency that the guy changes his mind?

If you’re not paying attention then that’s on you.

At least Trump has a mind to change vs the last figurehead that wondered off into the forest!

So, you can’t answer the question, then?

I did answer your question.

I like you, please don’t prove yourself a clone of the general or Ted.

You actually didn’t.

In fact, from what you did say, it appears that you don’t disagree that he frequently changes his mind.

You’ll also note that I never actually said it was a bad thing; merely that it does happen.

Why you brought up Biden is beyond me.

I have already, once again, been avoiding political topics in an effort to restore some semblance of peace here.

I shouldn’t even be in this thread if I’m being honest. Nothing good can come from it.

Didn’t I though?

Exactly where in this thread did I mention the former president by name?

You’re putting text in my posts and words in my mouth that never existed.

Then youre believing the falsehoods that you said..

You’re literally gaslighting yourself!

You’re correct in this prediction

Now you’re just playing dumb.

Or, I hope you’re playing

Where did I ever say you said his name?

To be clear, I don’t think anything good can come from you being here either.

I wish this forum would ban all non-firearm related political content.

:joy:

You didn’t say I said his name, you said his name, I said you said his name when I didn’t say his name because his name shouldn’t be spoke (typed)

:poop:in one hand and wish in the other and see which one fills up first!

Please feel free to comment on any of the active firearms related topics instead of this one.

This actually makes sense and I should have guessed that probably.
