Traveling to New Jersey

Ok, I’ll be driving to Jersey for a couple of days and will be carrying my .45 ACP Glock 30S (10 rnd mags). I’ll be carrying on my LEOSA credentials but am not sure about the sd ammo situation in the Garden State. My choices will be:

Underwood Extreme Defender
Hornady Critical Duty
Federal Guard Dog

Does anyone know if any or all of these are permissible? Thanks…

maybe @Jerzy has some info…
also you may want to check out this thread, it’s got some details, or you can ping the folks who are familiar with New Jersey law on that thread:

Cool, thanks much! Jersey laws are so damn random from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. I’ll just avoid hollow points and carry a 10 rd mag but I’m still not sure where I stand with Hornady, Guard Dog or even Extreme Defender ammo (fluted). I guess I’ll eventually give the NJSP a call.

I’ve just gotten notification… somebody mentioned my name…
Nope, no info from Jerzy about New Jersey

Anyway… Jerzy is drinking wine in France now :muscle:
I do not even think about any firearm business now… :wine_glass::fried_shrimp::squid::lobster::crab::champagne: and another :wine_glass:

@Charles55 for the few times I go to NJ (I’m from there) I down load my defensive ammo and re-stack with 230gr ball. There was a not too distant case where a single mom got in the wrong lane and ended up in NJ trying to get back to PA and she had 7 rnds of hollow point which got her hemmed up, I think Chris Christy pardoned her. There was another instance where a LEO was transporting a prisoner and got pulled over after dropping him/her/it off and got hemmed up for having a Glock19 fully loaded with HP’s. Just not worth the hassle IMHO. Be advised if you have out of state tags (especially from the south) YOU ARE A TARGET.

Cheers,

I think the good idea is to stay out of the state of New Jersey.

I hear ya but my wife’s family lives there. The whole NorthEast is like a foreign land to me.

But nowhere that I can find does Jersey actually explain in detail their definition of acceptable ammo. For instance, do they define Hornady Critical Defense/Duty a hollow point? A cop in one county may believe so and another may deem it a non-hollow point due to the polymer plug. I think I’m going to go with 230 grn ball just to be safe. Glad I don’t live in Jersey…

That would be my choice. Regular, standard pressure 230 grain ball ammo.

Charles, be sure NJ will HONOR your credentials-and I sure would not bet $$ that they will. They are very anti, and have very stiff penalties for violating “their” law. Be sure to get verification BEFORE you go there…
