I agree that it wasn’t intentional. The first one didn’t look all that much like a Nazi salute to me. Though then he turned around and did a closer impression of one to those standing behind him.
The problem is this gesture is playing right into the authoritarian image his actions are confirming. As unelected and unconfirmed government advisors his little DOGE boys and girls are running roughshod through the government intimidating and insulting government workers regardless of the importance of their jobs or the ability of the individual workers.
Musk has his completely inexperienced and unvetted interns running through data bases that contain all our personal information. They are issuing government decrees without using the chain of command and without any consultations with people who know what these departments do and how they work. Bullying public employees into quitting with no concern for how important their jobs are, or whether or not they are good at those jobs, is not the way to improve government efficiency.
Right now government workers are so busy trying to figure out which of these incoherent decrees are actually from DOGE and which are phishing scams from outside of DOGE and the government trying to access personal information and secure government files that they are having a hard time focusing on their jobs.
Based on the documents I am seeing posted on line it seems very clear to me that Musk is trying to run the government all on his own with little to no oversight from Trump and his legally authorized appointees. This is what happens when Congress, the Senate and the courts don’t do their jobs. I didn’t buy into the whole Trump is a dictator argument during this last election. But Trump’s dubiously legal EOs are making it possible for people like Musk to act exactly like dictators. Just as in the Biden years I am beginning to have no idea who is really running the country right now.
I view Trump. Much the way I view Henry Ford… All he did was surround himself with people… Like Ozzy Osbourne little talent but a good frontman… I get those that say. Well trump is successful, sure, so was Henry Ford.
The things that propelled Trump’s wealth were other people ideas just like Ford… Do people really believe Trump wrote all those executive orders…
(Example) Why can’t we inject something like bleach to cure covid. It says it is 99.9 percent effective … This was a thought that came to him in a press conference. I was watching … He had what he believed was an epiphany … In reality he just doesn’t understand the process…

Somebody here once quipped ‘If you think you can do better, get off the Couch and run for Office’.
Looking the other way when the government is bashing other Americans is what should be viewed as un-American. Some of the things Trump is doing right now with his EOs are the same kinds of things everyone else around here were ranting about when Biden was doing them.
This whole it’s OK if my guy bends/breaks the rules but not OK when there guy does is why this country is such a mess right now. You can look the other way while Americans are suffering under the edicts your guy has imposed. I will not stand by and watch silently. I am going to point out this administrations mistakes just as vociferously as I pointed out the last administrations.
No one on the right or left would ever vote me into office to try and make a change. So all I have is my voice and my vote. You can mute me but you can’t silence me just because I won’t silently and obediently march along to Trumps drum.
My intention was to keep quiet and give Trump a chance to prove me wrong. But this thing is going off the rails way quicker than I thought it would. The way he and his billionaire backers are doing things is putting some of his actions that I actually mostly agree with under threat of long term failure due to the extreme backlash it is creating amongst moderates as well as those on the left. One of my formerly moderate right leaning neighbors who went all in MAGA last year actually apologized to one of our other neighbors who works for the Forest Service the other day. When he heard what was going on he said he was rapidly shifting back to a moderate again. This pendulum swings both ways.
Can’t fix 4 years of America’s destruction in two weeks. Yeah, it’s gonna hurt for a while.
