So threaded barrels are legal in NC but what if you travel out of state?
Welcome Peter211. We’re glad you found us.
You would need to check the laws in the states you are traveling too. Recommendation would be not to go to any state not allowing threaded barrels.

Certainly! Let’s dive into the fascinating world of firearm regulations. Threaded barrels, those little cylindrical wonders that allow attachments like suppressors or flash hiders, can be a hot topic in different states. Here’s a rundown of where they stand:
- California: Threaded barrels are a no-go here. The California Penal Code 30605 states that anyone possessing an assault weapon (except as provided in specific cases) could face imprisonment1.
- Connecticut: If you’re in Connecticut, threaded barrels are a red flag. They’re illegal there2.
- New Jersey: In the Garden State, threaded barrels are a definite “nope.” Their association with criminal activity and potential misuse has led to strict penalties for possession3.
- Washington State: While threaded barrels aren’t explicitly banned, Washington does have restrictions on certain gun parts. For example, bump stocks (those devices that make semi-automatic firearms mimic fully automatic fire) are a big no-no. Also, short-barreled shotguns and rifles without proper federal licenses are off-limits4.
Remember, these laws can change, so it’s essential to stay informed. And hey, if you ever find yourself in a heated debate about threaded barrels at a backyard barbecue, you’ll be armed with knowledge!
Thrraded barrels legal still in MA, but silencers illegal, and the barrel counts as 1 “evil feature” toward an “assault style weapon”… another feature makes it very illegal in MA
I’m in NC and had no idea that anywhere would not allow threaded barrels. I thought it was all about what you have threaded onto them.
You forget, we’re moving away from the crime you commit, now it’s illegal because of the crime they think you might commit…
Yep…lol…that deadly threaded barrel. Once again let’s not mention the unthreaded idiots who ruined it for some of you.
A thread about threads.
Yup, “Crimes” … like not hurting ur ear drums, having a better grip, or stock for accuracy… all those “evil features” … ill never understand “safety laws” like those
You’ll have to check the laws of the state you’re traveling in. Just because it’s legal in one state doesn’t mean it is in another and more importantly doesn’t give you a free pass in another. It’s unfortunate some states have banned them but yeah best to check before you go.
Get and use a replacement non-threaded barrel. There are enough other things to worry about when traveling across State lines with a firearm.
