âU.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) teamed up with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol (OHP) for a three-day operation that resulted in the arrest of 120 illegal aliens.
The operation, conducted from September 22 to 25 along Interstate 40 in western Oklahoma, highlighted the effectiveness of ICEâs 287(g) program, which allows local law enforcement to assist in identifying and detaining individuals who violate immigration laws.
During the special emphasis on traffic enforcement, OHP made around 520 contacts, with ICE officers running records checks on foreign-born nationals encountered during routine patrols.
Of the 120 arrested:
-
Ninety-one were operating commercial motor vehicles with Commercial Driverâs Licenses (CDLs). These individuals hailed from countries including India (39), China (12), Uzbekistan (13), and others such as Russia, Georgia, and TĂŒrkiye. Many were overstays, had pending asylum claims, or had entered illegally. Shockingly, their CDLs were issued primarily by blue states: California (44), New York (14), Pennsylvania (12), and Illinois (11), with a few issued by other states, such as New Jersey and Florida.
-
Twenty-seven were arrested from passenger vehicles during traffic stops: Most were from Mexico (15) and Guatemala (10), with others from China and Cuba. Seventeen had entered illegally with no prior record, nine had been previously deported (six multiple times), and one had been denied a visa before sneaking in. Twenty-three of them entered the U.S. between 2020 and 2024.
-
Two were taken into custody from a nearby marijuana grow operation.
Many of these illegal aliens had serious criminal histories, including multiple DUIs, unlawful reentry into the U.S., money laundering, human smuggling, assault, conspiracy to distribute cocaine, and possession of controlled substances.
This operation underscores the dangers posed by unchecked illegal immigration, especially when it involves individuals driving massive 18-wheelers on American highways.
ICE Deputy Director Madison Sheahan praised the partnership in a press release, stating, âICEâs 287(g) program clearly demonstrates how federal and local law enforcement agencies can work together to make America safe again,â said Madison Sheahan, ICE Deputy Director. âIllegal aliens have no business operating 18 wheelers on Americaâs highways. Our roads are now safer with these illegal aliens no longer behind the wheel. We encourage more state and local law enforcement to sign 287(g) agreements to help remove public safety threats and receive reimbursement funds available to our law enforcement partners.â
As noted in the release, Transportation Secretary Sean P. Duffy has taken emergency action to restrict non-domiciled CDLs for non-citizens, requiring stricter rules like employment-based visas and federal immigration checks via the SAVE system.
âWhat our team has discovered should disturb and anger every American,â said Duffy in a press release.
Duffy continued, âLicenses to operate a massive, 80,000-pound truck are being issued to dangerous foreign drivers â often times illegally. This is a direct threat to the safety of every family on the road, and I wonât stand for it. Todayâs actions will prevent unsafe foreign drivers from renewing their license and hold states accountable to immediately invalidate improperly issued licenses.â
Moves like this are crucial in combating the Biden-era border crisis that allowed so many of these individuals to enter and obtain licenses in the first place.â
âThe Department of Homeland Security confirmed the arrest of Rick Martinez Lopez, an illegal alien from Guatemala with multiple convictions in Virginia.
Despite his history as a convicted pedophile and registered sex offender, the Richmond City Jail released him in August after refusing to honor an ICE detainer.
That decision allowed a violent criminal back into the community, proving that the consequences of sanctuary policies are not abstract but dangerously real.
Martinez Lopezâs record is extensive and alarming. His convictions include sexual assault of a child, failure to register as a sex offender, and probation violations.
He was a known threat, yet local officials chose to ignore a lawful detainer request from federal immigration authorities.
Instead of cooperating with ICE, Richmond authorities prioritized political ideology over public safety, enabling a repeat offender to walk free in Virginia neighborhoods.
The release demonstrates how sanctuary policies function in practice.
Federal immigration officers attempted to carry out their duties, but local officials refused to cooperate, placing ideology above enforcement.
These policies undermine public trust and erode the ability of federal officers to protect communities from individuals already proven dangerous.
Rather than safeguarding families, sanctuary decisions increase the likelihood that predators remain in close proximity to vulnerable populations.
Martinez Lopez entered the United States illegally at an unknown time and place, bypassing any form of lawful inspection.
His presence in the country reflects how failures at the border combine with sanctuary loopholes to create lasting dangers.
When local governments decline to assist federal officers, the result is not community protection but heightened risk.
Communities are forced to live with the consequences of criminals shielded from deportation.
After his release, Martinez Lopez spent weeks freely moving about before ICE finally apprehended him on October 14.
This arrest required additional time, manpower, and resources that could have been avoided had Richmond honored the detainer in August.
ICE agents continue to perform their duties even during the ongoing government shutdown, working without pay to remove the worst criminal aliens from American streets.
Their persistence underscores the importance of cooperation, yet local sanctuary policies continually obstruct that mission.
This case is exactly why YouthVote exists: to expose failures where ideology is placed above safety and to give voters the tools to hold leaders accountable.
You can support YouthVoteâs mission to protect families and strengthen communities by subscribing or sharing its work.
As one of the few organizations consistently advocating for children in K-12 education and shining a light on policies that harm families, YouthVoteplays a vital role in holding leaders accountable for reckless decisionsâlike sanctuary lawsâthat put children at risk.â

âA U.S. Marshal and an illegal immigrant were both shot Tuesday in Los Angeles during an immigration enforcement operation, Fox News has learned.
Federal agents surrounded and boxed in someone in a vehicle. The driver allegedly rammed federal vehicles in an attempt to escape, sources within U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) told Fox News. Federal agents opened fire. One U.S. Marshal was struck in his hand by what initially appeared to be a bullet ricochet, sources said.
The illegal immigrant was struck in the elbow. Both were taken to a hospital and were expected to survive.
