This year, Colt introduced an updated Python .357 Magnum revolver at a bargain price of $1,499. Colt was able to do this through the use of CNC machining equipment, eliminating all the labor-intensive skilled machining operations needed on the previous generations of all Colt handguns. I was overjoyed at the prospect of testing one. I’ve long-admired Pythons (though I had never owned or shot one). Colt sent me the 6-inch-barreled version. I’d been hoping for the 4 inch but turned out to be pleased with the 6 inch.
I wish but when you buy a Colt you pay for the name. Pythons were handcrafted pieces of art back in the day. Now I have heard various reports of owners of the new one being very upset that the quality isnt there anymore. I would wait a few years and see what happens or look around for a older one. My brother had a stainless steel he got in the 1990s and he sold it for way over what he paid for it.
I own a 1977 Python and a new stainless Python. The new gun is stronger a little simpler, smoother, and slightly more accurate. The new gun is the better gun. Collectible guns will keep their value. Shooter grade guns should go for less now that we have the new gun.
Isn’t the King Cobra basically a full underlug version of the Trooper? I don’t think the smooth lines are going to come back with their CNC process.
I’ve been eyeing the Colta Cobra in 38, as I’ve been wanting a 90’s Detective Special for a long time. Looking at the new Cobra on the shelf, it looks clunkier and thicker than the 90’s Detective Special, so I’ve lost interest. I might consider an Anaconda if they start making those again… although I’ve been wanting a 5" 44 mag for awhile.

Those Gen 3 Colt DetSpecs are the best snubnose 38 Special this nation has ever produced.
I was pleasantly surprised that Colt rolled out their new-series Pythons. I would like to go hands-on with one before I plunk down 1500 bones + to get one. I would also like some views of the internal lockwork before taking the plunge.
Had this one for over 25 years. Absolutely cannot miss. Not my first choice to carry - but an intimidating thing to look at if they bust through my front door!
HA! It IS a V-spring action. That did it, I’m going for it. It might be a wait, but I have done without a Snake for long enough. MANY THANKS for posting this video, sir!
