Synthetic Jacket Range Ammo

I found a decent deal on some FMJ 9mm that has a synthetic jacket. I remember reading that the synthetic material can build up in the barrel and cause fouling. Has anybody used such ammo and if so, did it cause any problems?

I thought about trying them but that was as far as I got. It would be nice to see the response to this one.

Federal claims that their Syntech is better than other polymer coated ammo.
Hopefully it is. I’m not going to risk again untill I see positive feedback from shooters, not Internet…

I bought polymer coated ammo (not Federal) two years ago and found it completely unreliable. That was my best time of neverending malfunction drills. :smirk:
However I must admit…1911 shot it without any problems. All other pistols had the issues.

I tried a box of Syntech 9mmsome time ago, While it functioned in my Ruger without issues, it opened up groups by at least 50%. But then I’ve never been a big fan of the performance of Federal ammo in any of my guns,

I am guessing by ‘Synthetic’ you mean polymer coated bullets. I have shot 10’s of thousands of rounds of my reloads using these bullets from a number of places. I have not had a problem at all with fouling; however it is more than a jacketed bullet but far less than a straight lead bullet. Bullet size plays a part in it, so YMMV depending on the gun for accuracy. My 1911’s pretty much liked them all, while my other guns could be hit or miss. Some the accuracy was terrible.

I later moved to plated bullets, and then went back to jacketed or plated depending on what I could get.

I have used Federal Syntech with no fouling issues.
