That’s a great point that I honestly never thought of!
I know it’s a little late for this thread but Agency Arms came out with an aftermarket trigger that DOES have a safety tab.
there is no problem with either gun, been running the 365 ever since it first came out and love it. I carry every day, all day and feel safe with the operation of it. 8,000 round through it with no problems, I have a new striker and spring kit in a box since 4000 rds that I have never use because have never need yet. I can be a little bit of a Sig fan boy but they work for me, find what works for you and stick with it.
Hi Dawn,
So if I understand correctly, the issue with the P320 has been resolved, and is no longer a safety issue. Correct?
Rob
Sig did a voluntary update to the trigger to resolve the issue, @Austin:
Hi Dawn,
Thanks. I’m thinking about purchasing a 320, but I wanted to make sure the issue had been completely resolved.
Rob
Just be sure you buy P320 manufactured recently.
Thanks Jerzy,
If I purchase one, it will be a new one from a retail establishment.
Rob
That’s the firearm I carry too; thinking of a Hellcat for the wife; she has a 38spl S&W wheel firearm now.
I really want to like the p365. From what I’ve heard it is still the best micro 9. However, I still can’t get over these two things about the gun.
1, no trigger safety. - I understand “the safety is between your ears” but the trigger safety is designed to make the gun drop safe and it works. I understand there are many people who own 365s and it’s not an issue from what I’ve heard, but I still can’t see how if the trigger hits the ground with the right force or right angle it won’t discharge.
- I don’t like the firing pin design. The part of the firing pin that makes contact with the sear, and the part of the firing pin that makes contact with the striker block are the same piece. (Glocks and M&Ps have contact point for the striker block in different locations on the firing pin). It seams like a decision made to slim the gun down, but I don’t like it.

Edit:
P365

Glock

M&P

The common argument against this is there’s tons of 365s and no ones having problems. But that’s not the same thing as saying the design is designed with optimal safety in mind.
I had a choice between a P365 with frame safety and one without when I bought mine. I opted for the one with the safety, but then before that most of my pistol shooting was with a 1911, so that’s how I trained. When I draw either gun my thumb just instinctively lands on the safety ready to push it down.
My Masada has a trigger safety but no frame safety. I’m very comfortable with that. And my FNX-45 has a decocker/safety. I usually carry it decocked but safety off. That loooong double action pull is pretty safe by itself.
Both of your concerns were purposeful engineering design choices by Sig. There is more than one way to get from here to there and every design choice has pros/cons.
As many P365s as are out there now, some of them with really high round counts, they both seem to be unfounded concerns about safety or reliability.
As far as it being the “best”, it was the “first in best dressed” in the slim double-stack category. There are other very solid choices out now that give the P365 a run for the money. The Hellcat comes to mind, has been around a few years now and M&P’s Shield Plus is bound to be solid as well. Mossberg and Kimber have entries here, and I might be forgetting one or two more (I’m not counting Glock’s 43X in this list)
You are overthinking this.
It is not about how the design looks, it is about how this design works. ![]()
I would think more redundancy is better in terms of safety components.
Redundancy is always better… but if every shooter would think this way we all would shoot Glocks and nobody would use SIG P365 ![]()
Lok at pistols’ design from these manufacturers:
- Wilson Combat - they removed grip safety from their new models; no problems at all
- Staccato - their pistols are based on 1911 series 70 without firing pin block; no problems at all
To be honest, if you are responsible enough (means smart and logically thinking) you should be good with any firearm without single mechanical safety. ![]()
Hence what I carry ![]()
