Sooooo,….. if I want to get better with my echelon, I should spray paint the front lens of my optic!:grin::rofl::zany_face:

Basically.
Or just close you dominate eye

I do not comprehend why people have a problem with red dots; they are easy to use. I guess this really represents people in general; they need to open both eyes and see what is right in front of them.
This sounds like a liberal approach to things to me. Just cover it up.

I don’t really understand this. It seems as if he is trying to teach you to shoot with your non-dominate eye while keeping both eyes open. It seems to me if you are looking for the dot with your dominate eye then practice getting the dot on target with it.

I had intermittent problems finding the dot the first time I used one, but it straightened out in around 25 rounds. Basically, he is teaching point shooting with the non-dominate eye along with having both eyes open and wasted money on a dot.

Also known as the Armson OEG sight. I still have mine from the 90’s, I just close the front cover on non-magnified optics.

Correct…but only if you use the same color as your Echelon has… :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Actually this method is not about “finding the dot” and this video is misleading.

If you want to get better with finding your dot, just practice “natural point of aim”.
It may happen that somehow you have to learn dropping your muzzle or bend knees more than during shooting with iron sights.

The main purpose of this drill is focusing on target.
Covering optic’s window to make it opaque is also a great method to learn and practice shooting with both eyes open and have a faster target acquisition.
Using both eyes

  • gives better depth perception, allowing faster distance calculation
  • maximize field of view
  • makes your first shot faster
  • prevents eye fatigue
  • is natural for humans and in stressful situation it’s a huge chance we never close non-dominat eye to take a shot.

So… covering optic’s windows doesn’t teach you how to

  • shoot red dot
  • shoot dominant eye
  • shoot non-dominant eye
It is just a easy way to learn how to keep focus on the target (superimposed dot on target) and use both eyes (how your brain is processing images from two eyes) .

If you want to understand this drill, do this:

  1. cover front of your optic with masking tape
  2. present your firearm to the target
  3. focus on the target and put the dot on the target (you see both - dot over the target)
  4. shift your focus on the dot (you see dot only, no more target)
