I heard this from various people and this is my version.
Satan doesn’t come to you looking like a demon with horns, a trident or breathing fire. Satan comes to as your greatest desire and by the time you figure out who it is; satan has you by the balls. At that point you have to ask yourself, am I willing to give it all up and start over? Or will you value things over your soul?
The answer depends entirely on whether or not “help” is what one intends.
The Adversary, however one cares to characterize it, uses temptations far more seductive than mere “things”. Pride, power, pleasure, satisfaction, status, escape, achievement, vengeance; all these can grip a heart with far tighter bonds.
To you those might not be things. To me those are things. Things that as you say, can grip a heart with ties so tight, they will drag you to hell and you won’t care you’re going there.
Intangibles rather than things, in my estimation. YMMV. Either way, we’re making the same point.

I would lean more to:
Heaven for god’s presence
Hell for satan’s presence
We are reaching the same conclusion
