“The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society the honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.” - Albert Einstein

In the 60’s Hippies were indeed liberal, but in the 60’s liberals weren’t obsessed with the government controlling their lives, quite contrary, they didn’t want government involved in their lives at all. Not like today’s liberals that believe that it’s the government’s job to protect, and support them.(not all liberals, just the far left socialist liberals).Real Hippies wanted to be left alone, to do their own thing. They weren’t looking for Government handouts, at least not the ones that I knew. They just wanted to go off in the mountains, or woods and live in peace and grow their own food, build their own homes and to get stoned. Today’s quote " It’s only a weed that turns to a flower in your mind".
One of the greatest compliments I ever received was from one of the custodians at work. He was an older gentlemen, limped around on the job because of how hard he’d worked his whole life, and was barely able to read or write. He would stop in to my office to sit down when he needed a break. We would chat for a while and he would get up and go back to work. He told me one day that he knew I was busy, but when he stoped in I always made time for him.
It honestly never occurred to me to do otherwise. What’s more important than people? And what better gift to give them than your time?
I would also suggest that it says a lot about who they are as well.
@Sinbad The things we give people that have nothing to do with material gifts are the most precious. Like time, love, listening, sincerity, validation, courtesy, kindness, eye contact etc. those are the things I remember most. And the humblest of gifts like a feather, a beautiful rock, a flower…
I learn more from the giving of those things than I do from the receiving. And random acts of kindness…such fun and feels so good!
@Sinbad The reverse is true too…you learn a lot about people who don’t fit you in.
