Ammo, brass, powder, primers seem to be tight in the market, obviously tighter by certain calibers. Good to have prepared previously, and to be a reloader. Winter fun is reloading for summer usage.
Next shortage will be in oc pepperballs

Enjoyed the video, especially the comment:
We appreciate everything you do, especially ordering off your website where the prices of your ammo are fair. Thanks and keep up the good work."
I went and looked and most items show available. Interesting. One example
Still can’t find .380, 38 special and 357 magnum. it sucks. I have none. 40 is hard to find. I got 9. I can find 450 Bushmaster, shotgun and 22.
Maybe even archery equipment. No laughing, buy now.
Remember, archery equipment comes with sound suppression built in, no tax stamp needed.
At my local range you can get target, and defensive ammo most of the time. 556 runs out quickly. Haven’t seen 22 ammo for months, and just ran out of 38 & 357 last week. They get a shipment in every once in a while so you just have to keep going back. You can walk in and buy one box of 9mm per day, of both defensive and range. If you shoot there you can get away with 2 boxes. Doesn’t hurt to stop by the local gun ranges. It is about 3 times what I paid a year ago, but it is there for the most part.
I have been able to find both for 9mm through patience and perseverance. Some times at normal prices and sometimes slightly higher.
My main source has been Cabela’s and I check every time I am there or on their site. I have bought ammo of one type or another about once a month from them over past 3 or 4 months. Good thing is it is at normal prices.
I have also bought some here and there on the web if I can find qualtiy brass OEM ammo at slightly higher than normal prices. Typically that has been target ammo.
I consider “normal” price for brass case 9mm FMJ to be between 16-18 cents/round for Federal, Remington, or Winchester. I looked at BassPro/Cabelas website this morning. 500 rounds of Winchester “Bulk” pack is $149.00 or 30 cents/round, but is not in stock. I paid $99.00 or 20 cents/round for that same box from BassPro this past April and was disappointed to be paying 2 to 4 cents more per round than I was accustomed to, but they did ship it to my door, no extra charge, and only about a 3 week wait after order.
It is obviously a basic supply and demand driving the current high prices. Until the supply returns to “normal” the price will remain above “normal”. The fastest way for the supply to rebuild is for people to slow down on their procurement, but that isn’t going to happen for a while.
Not attacking you @Martin36, I’ve just admitted I might be part of the problem ![]()
No offense taken.
For me, I purchased my first gun back over the summer so I am 100% sure what I think is reasonable is higher than those that had been buying before the current ammo shortage. I was able to snag a 500 round box of Herter’s target ammo for 140 (28 cents a round) and felt like I hit the jackpot.
I have to admit I am part of the problem as well because I am also purchasing it when I see it whether I really need it or not.
I want to shoot a lot mor and do a lot more drills…but that takes ammo so I am trying to buy when I can.
Field and Stream, local gun stores but just to expensive to purchase.
A guy at church today works at a small sporting goods store and said they got 9 in and were selling it at $40 /50. He said they bought it from the wholesaler for $37!!!
The little guys are getting killed by the wholesalers. I know that for a fact. Not only do they have to pay through the nose for the ammo &/or guns that are in demand, but they have to accept the dusty crap that has been on the shelf for 5 years as part of their order, or they get nothing.
Federal’s site has some 9mm, 10mm, 32, 44 and 45 in stock. Not sure if others. If you are looking for ammo you might want to give tgdm a try.
I’ll wait a while. H Gi otta get a gun first.
Online had some; Had to check ‘several’ retailers. Shopped for five different calibers. 3-4 times the price compared to period before the month of “March, 2020”. However, certain favorite brands I like, with specific characteristics were unavailable since “then”. Went to one gun show, they had very limited supply, and a far cry from store/factory fresh trust. Gun stores too far and few for me to know; but the one shop I frequent - had shortages as well. Me: Have enough for EDC, but too expensive to practice with live rounds.
Yup, here is my haul yesterday. .223 at $0.75 per round, .308 at $1 per round, .45 ACP at $0.68 a round. As for the .50 BMG, don’t worry about that. Price of ammo hasn’t changed and it’s like a Ferrari. Don’t buy it if you can’t afford the oil change. I have a good stock of ammo and reloading supplies but I still buy if I can at non-inflated prices. Brass consumed = 0, primers used = 0, powder used = 0, bullets used = 0, change in inventory +760 rounds. I can still usually find ammo, I just usually pass on the prices.
Just received a WikiArms email listing Federal 9mm 115 grain FMJ 1000 round case for $589.99 at the Kentucky Gun Company. Currently listed as being in stock. Probably won’t last long.
Also listed as flat rate shipping of $11.99
Every time I’m tempted to buy 1000 rounds in the $500 price range, I call up an order from 18 months ago. I bought 500 rounds of 9mm 124 grain FMJ of Federal for $99. I’d probably pay $300 for 1000 rounds now, but not $500. Maybe I’m living in a fantasy world, hoping it goes down to something near what I paid then.
The ammo is too damn high.
I’m not finding much of anything good or affordable online, but I’ve been persistent with visiting local outlets and have been able to get what I need just as it comes in. Usually local ammo is gone within 2 hours of its arrival…. Have to be there when they unload the truck. At this point, if I had to defend with target ammo, I think I’d be fine.
I’m able to buy ammo locally no problem now.
Keep calling your local stores. Some have when others do not. If they don’t have 2.23 I ask for 9mm, 38 Special, 9mm, 5.56, .380 or 357 magnum.
Try to find out what they DO have. I’ve purchased ammo I couldn’t use and was able to trade it for something I DO need.
I don’t need this yet. (See Photo) I bought it because it was $9.99 at Academy.
I’ll either get an AR and use it one day or pass it on to someone who needs it now.
