I think it was earlier this year when my baby turned six and I was suddenly reminded that I would most likely outlive her. The thought of putting her down almost made me cry. My wife thought I was crazy. :face_holding_back_tears:

A friend recently worked at a nonprofit that takes care of horses nobody wants anymore. He said he spent most of his time shoveling poop. I’m considering volunteering just to be closer to horses. I just need to convince my Labrabull to sign off on it.

@BeanCounter DO it! Your dog will sniff your boots but he’ll get over it.

In the early 60’s, I used to get shipped off to a dairy farm to work every Summer.
Room, board, and a buck a day.
I got to be pretty good at using that same kind of shovel.
My back aches just thinking about it.
(Or maybe my back just aches all the time…I forget.)

@Vic3 LOL. It can be hard on the back. A wheelbarrow full of horse poop and other mucky stuff is about 50 pounds. Then I push the wheelbarrow through a muddy path about 250’ to the much bigger muck mountain, dump the load, wheel it back and start over. Fun!
There were times in the past is pilled the wheelbarrow for one reason or another. In another place, had to try and get a head start, push it up a snowy/icy ramp to a dump truck. Fell in it only once which I figure is a good score.

Ouch!
If you’re going to fall into a dump truck, do you want it to be empty and land on steel, or full and land on smelly soft stuff?

Decisions, decisions.

The farmer I worked for had over two hundred Holsteins and it took a couple of hours twice a day in the milk shed for the milkings.

That equates to a whole bunch of smelly soft stuff that needs shoveling.

Ah, youth.

@Vic3 I’d rather land on the smelly soft stuff. It doesn’t smell bad to me. Only horse people understand. LOL

Caramel (Momma Kitty) -
Sweetest tempered cat we ever had.
Old owner dumped her (and six kittens) on a country road. She was down to six pounds when we found her.

Coconut (Butchie),
Caramel’s only male kitten, who no one wanted to adopt.
They all missed out on having a really fun cat.

@Vic3 She looks like a sweet heart! How lucky she is that you saved her.

@Wanda3 - It’s the old ā€œwho saved whoā€ question.
We had just lost our first rescue kitty (lousy f’ing neighbor moved out in the middle of a brutal Winter and just abandoned her) and we were walking around in a daze for a couple of weeks.
Nothing like an empty house where a pet has just passed on.
Then along came Caramel and her babies. That kept us hopping and life got busy and happy again.

@Mike164 - LOL!
We got to know that look quite well.
Here’s one captioned ā€œHold my beer while I jump from the counter to the stoveā€.
