Pepper Ball Lunchers

Chasz, thank you for your continued service. We seem to have similar backgrounds. Its a great question as not every situation requires a lethal response. There are times when less-than lethal should be an option in the civilian tool kit. My biggest aprehension would be pulling out the hot sause launcher and someone trumps my Ace with 9mm or 40 Cal. The launcher looks like a compact pistol, so in a low light situation, it could ve mistaken for a firearm.

As a means of distract and evade, this would do the trick. If someone is not quite comfortable with a firearm, I would point them in the direction of the launcher. When off duty, I have to remind myself on occasion that I do not have a full tool box with me. That being pepper, Taser, Baton, etc. Hence, having the option would be benifical and compliment ones EDC. Just dont do a B.A.R.T. PD (Oakland, CA.) manuver and think your grabing a less-than lethal weapon, only to deploy a single round into the back of a prone subject from ones firearm.

The only other drawback I could see is that it is more equipment to carry. Possable Co2, 5 pepper ball magazines, another holster, etc. If one is carring IWB or OWB, which side will it ride on? Or, if one has a 5.11 style “Push Pack” (Or Purse / Bag) those have a holster compartment that can be used and the firearm could be carried at the waist position, maybe even cross-draw because of the pack being on the dominant side.

Many things to consider, including the price. Right now the launcher is about the same price as a used Glock 19, so there is that. Cheers!

All hypotheticals, we can be here all day long, no thanks, I carry only lethal, it has work great and I trust that it will.

There is nothing hypothetical about the fact that most assaults/attacks do not rise to the level of force.

There is nothing hypothetical about the fact that less lethal self defense is a critically important option to prepare for.

You absolutely need to have a plan for a non lethal threat you may not always be able to run away from

What that is is of course up to you, but
you can’t plan on every defensive situation being either run away or draw a gun

You need a hypothetical plan. Just sayin :christmas_tree:

I mean, I guess?

But it’s no more a hypothetical plan than anything the gun is carried for is also a hypothetical

Such a feeling’s coming over me.

What do you all think about regular mini canned pepper spray, or the Kimber “Spray”?

I’ve seen some spray that has a bright light on it, which the light turns on automatically from the thumb opening the cap/top, but it didn’t have a belt clip.

Same for Kimber as Byrna
not a fan of something that resembles and is deployed similarly to a handgun, but isn’t.

Cans of pepper spray are so extremely common, affordable, and proven-reliable
why go with something that is by comparison, rare, expensive, and unproven?

I also, unfortunately, clicked on that link and entered a fake birthday to read the Kimber marketing material
I can’t in good conscious support a company with that kind of advertisement language lol you’d think they cured cancer

And
it only gives you two “shots”
which they advertise as a good thing vs a “old-school” (their language, because proven reliable tech is bad now?) aerosol canister that can give you 10+ “shots”

So yeah that’s a firm NO from me

Everything you responded to were all hypotheticals, the last one for sure. I choose to carry only lethal, is that a serious problem for you?

It is only a problem for me in as much as it makes all of us look bad when people use a gun for a non-lethal situations, further driving the anti-gun movement.

The fact is that most situations do not rise to the level of lethal force.

The fact is that a person cannot guarantee they will always be able to safely run away from every possible scenario that doesn’t call for a gun.

I would disagree coming from an law enforcement background and prior to that Spec Ops in USAF. More than my fare shares went to zipping up body bags.
