There is one God and seven churches in the world. Each church has its short comings but yet there still is one God. Whether you believe in God or Not does not matter. " For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God." Since all have sinned and come short of the glory of God how do you even begin to understand what is righteous and holy? You can quote a verse in the bible and probably verses of songs that are sung on the radio too, but it doesn’t make you a good singer! and likewise, it does not make you a bible theologian.

Thank you, Enzo, for your response. Sadly, there are plenty of trolls posting counterproductive responses in this “community” and I kind of regret even starting the thread. It reflects an issue I have struggled with personally. I don’t like hurting or killing things. I try to avoid ants on the sidewalk, for crying out loud!
But if one of those ants were threatening to kill me or my wife or my kids or my grandkids - SQUISH goes the ant!
People are of much greater value than ants, which makes it a hard topic. Humans, even the evil ones, are made in God’s image, and we shouldn’t regard the taking of life lightly.
For my part, if someone wants to steal my stuff, go right ahead. But if they start heading upstairs or toward me or my wife, I will defend our lives.
Anyways, thanks for your thoughtful response. The trolls make it worse for everyone, so it’s nice to see something intelligent coming from one of our members.

I’ve done a great deal up empirical study myself. Both Greek in ancient Hebrew text. The Bible itself and many other religious writings. What I discovered was just as there were evidences opposing my religious point of view there were many just as valid supporting them. The fact is all churches and man-made doctrines are imperfect and incomplete. The true church is not a building better place of spiritual communion with the Creator.
What it all comes down to in the end after all the study, after all the questions, after all the opposing views are weighed, come to a point you have to accept or deny on faith. Since those who denied God and chose not to believe have no faith, they cannot begin to understand what we as Christians have found. No sense in arguing with them. At a point they begin to become hardened and to deny conviction in their hearts and at some point the holy Spirit will stop talking. Have you ever stopped to consider the only unforgivable sin is the sin of blaspheming the holy Spirit. I believe that is exactly at some point and I can’t judge where that point is what they do by rejecting that still small voice.

I don’t see the contradiction. The original Hebrew says don’t murder, not don’t kill. Big difference then and now.

something of interest… not all that long ago kill and murder in the dictionary meant the same…
an older book title say a lot “who killed cockrobin” was a murder mystery…
slay was used to express the taking of life in defense…
so the meaning of words in some languages changes over time I guess…

Please, do not lecture me. I’ve heard it all before. I am just giving an opinion. Feel free to skip this post.
I don’t attend a Church with any regularity. Not because of a lack faith. Rather a lack of faith in man. I find the Judgement of those who judge others, who do not operate in lockstep with their attendance and personal beliefs to be distasteful. Despite numerous scriptural entries, that entreat the faithful to not judge. As it is the creator who reserves the right to join judge.
My personal beliefs are…
Mathew 7:1-3. 7 Judge not, that ye be not judged . 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged : and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Matthew 18:20. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

If you’ve not listened to Dave Grossman’s lecture on the BulletProof Mind, you should give it a listen. He deals with the taking of human life and how it relates to Christianity.

I kind of always thought that you didn’t have to subscribe to any particular religion to adhere and practice the “rules” as put forth by “The Ten Commandments” to have a truly civilized society. Granted, the first 3 relate to mankind’s relationship with God, but the last 7 provide a pretty decent outline for man’s relationship with his fellow man In case you haven’t noticed, all the man-made laws in all the law books in all the libraries of the world don’t seem to be working very well at all. Personally, I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

To kill someone is to kill yourself a little. Even if you were in the Military and you were in a war, it kills you a little at a time. When you see a friend die or family it will affect you in your life. It is wisdom that explains to you that to kill someone takes from your soul and hardens your heart and you cannot go back from the actions that have already happened. SO, the best thing you can do is avoid having to defend yourself or others by avoiding being in a situation that you have to use deadly force if all possible. If you have to then remember that you would not have done it unless you were forced to have to defend yourself or others.

sadly there exist people that will make claims and say things that are…
stretching the truth???
such usually refuse to comply or dance all around the issue but still don’t provide PROOF…
of their claim… or a link to their claim… etc…
also I consider it a reasonable request to show proof of such as that to me sounds like a rather serious claim…
