That is a big 10 - 4 buddy! National C.B. day was October 4th but that is a 10 -10 big buddy!
If you are ever thinking about local communications to nearby peeps and you have a C.B. radio then you are prepared. If you do not have a C.B. radio then just think about the benefits to having one, especially if you are traveling. Your truck drivers have a way of keeping others informed of hazards ahead or even which lane is being blocked. So, it would not be a bad idea to have one on hand.
I actually have C.B., HAM, Satellite, and P.T.T. capabilities for just in case. But I will admit to using none regularly. I have the capability for just in case the fecal matter hits the high speed impeller blades. Otherwise, the units are stored in Faraday bags along with their Solar Powered charging units.
Sometimes I look at all of my survival prep gear and wonder why? Then I snap out of it and look at the insanity out there walking loose in the world and wonder why in the actual eff I don’t have more.
Especially in the wake of X weather event or the “mostly peaceful” protests. It’s nice to not have to go out into the scrum of the sheeple.
My God I remember when that C B dad was going on in the late 70s I think but everyone had to have one , I think it means “ citizens band” don’t it? But man it was a craze, a good one but a craze indeed.
I have one of those cool radios that gets all the emergency stuff like NOAA and I forgot the other stuff but when the “ fat hits the fire” lol it is real good to have and what I like most about it is it can power on solar or batteries or even hand crank . I got it for like $50 or something and if any of you has ever bought something from those BUD K catalogs or something gear and others that fill up your mailbox with a catalog a day has seen it, it’s the green one and it actually works well to my amazement, I got a dam catalog yesterday and prolly will get one today. The one from yesterday has a guy holding a big double axe a Hibben or some cheap blade maker. But there you have it and if anyone needs a decent emergency radio it’s a pretty good one for cheap, it was less than fifty bucks actually.
I know you know what you’re doing brother, but it’s probably a good idea to break those radios out of their bags on a regular basis and exercise them. I’ve found that lithium batteries can just up and die on you, as in, not take a charge, and AA batteries are prone to leaking. I had a variety of handhelds that I kept in a cabinet, “just in case” and was surprised to find that battery issues had killed all of them while I wasn’t paying attention. Now all my radios are kept charged, tested about every week or so, and batteries rotated out on a regular basis. It keeps corrosion out of the knobs and switches, antenna connections are checked, antennas swapped and tested and, basically, everything is ensured good-to-go.
Not sure this applies but have you seen the videos of guys putting a small charge on dead lithium batteries where the charger will recognize it and charge it up?
I regularly discharge/recharge all of my battery operated devices. I try to charge them about 80% of the way and use the solar recharger just to make sure it’s all still working.
I just did a full maintenance cycle on all of my gear because I am worried about this election cycle. Borderline scared. Tuesday I’m voting because we don’t do/allow early voting here unless you jump through alot of hoops for an absentee ballot. Then I am battening down the hatches. Wife is going to work from home or take vacation days. If nothing happens yeah, we get some cleaning and projects done and get house ready for the holidays. If something does I’m in my best place with what matters most. Daughter is taking her Medical Licensing Boards on the 30th and then coming home for the week.
The guy who did commo told me to not charge any lithium battery to more than 80% because it can damage the battery.
Hey guys ( couldn’t name you all ) but I don’t dare put or especially keep any batteries in my SHTF radio, no way! But thanks for the help. If I had one that had to use batteries I would secure the batteries in a container and tape it or secure it some how and change them out on a continuous basis.
