I like the type I have on my AR but I don’t care for those little window type on my carry gun/s one problem I have is I can’t conceal well at all kinda short and chubby anymore but 30 lbs or so of it is fluid from a bad liver and just had two hernia surgeries on 4-2-24 so carrying anywhere except my pocket at this point is not even a thought. I have two of those hollistic ( or whatever) sights but just don’t like them but I like the fully enclosed scope type red/green dot jobs. I had that other type on a Ruger 22/45 ( biggest POS I ever owned and have owned 100+ ) and just couldn’t hardly get that dot focused enuf to make a decent shot and if I had to make a quick accurate life depending shot with it I would not be here now. About that Ruger I just had a hella time getting it back together after I tried to find out why it wouldn’t even fire a magazine full w I jamming.and my buddy had the same problem but I never figured it out but as far as putting it back together they changed it to where it’s much easier now,
Question for those who carry inside waistband with an optic: when the weather is warm do you ever have issue with sweat and body heat fogging the outside of the lenses? I get it a good Optic is sealed on the inside but does humidity blur the outside surfaces of the lenses? Thanks. -new member.
Hey @Wesley60 , welcome to the Community ![]()
Answering your question - no. I’ve never got any issues with my red dot window in any of weather condition… other that rain pouring directly on in.
I’m using RMR2, which is open emitter.
Based on your description you are using closed emitter, which was designed to completely avoid fogging. You should be good, nothing to worry about.
Thanks for the quick reply and welcome. I don’t have an optic yet. Am considering getting one. This was a question that came to mind today. I appreciate you sharing your experience.
Welcome to the forums “W”!
Welcome Wjames. I live in high desert and CCW IWB in the summer. I run Holosun 507’s that are not fully enclosed. I have had no problems with fogging. That could be due to the dry, arid climate. Don’t know what it would be like in a wet climate area like the Northwest.
That is a plus living up here, They definitely do not fog out here, 10-12% humidity
I have just one comment.
I took the irons off, they are a distraction
I guess it’s just how you view things. My irons will never fail me.
I am not saying they will fail me, the are just not necessary on my carry pistol. I will not be looking to see if they are lined up when under stress defending myself.
Nor will I. I am quite confident they will be and I needn’t be looking for a “dot” to verify.
Not here to debate methodology or training. Just be absolutely certain of both.
Congratulations…you don’t use red dot… but what does it bring to this discussion?
Last year I took two classes on defensive tactics involving car-jacking and home intrusion. I have had a couple of real life “minor incidents” in the past, but this was the first time I was presented with multiple targets in a stressful situation. Even though this was a classroom experience I can honestly say that to me, my red-dots slowed me down considerably and my accuracy suffered. I switched guns (to iron sights) after the first drill. Maybe if I practiced more with the red-dots it might be different. After I switched, my comfort level changed completely and I was able to successfully and accurately accomplish the drills. The targeting was more natural especially going from target to target. Hell, it just felt better.
^ Just this.
