I wouldn’t be surprised it the racoon was taken by animal control and subsequently put to sleep because the owner was going down for a long stretch. Racoons don’t live that long in comparison to jail time.

Now, that’s an unusual encounter.

Not many raccoons around here so it makes me wonder if they’re ok as pets.
Only time I heard about raccoons in my neck of the woods was to warn us of rabies.

Depends.

They’re illegal (as pets) in a lot of places. Aside from that, they are very curious and active, a combination that can easily lead to mischievous behavior and a path of destruction in their wake.

One fun part about them though, is that they love to solve puzzles/problems. So if you have time, energy and ways to keep them entertained, they can be fun. Dogs will figure out how to get a treat from a box. Raccoons will learn how to get a treat from a box, inside a larger container, in a cabinet above the counter, with the doors tied shut.

My guess is Chewy has been trained to be a drug mule.

First there was cocaine bear, now CrackCoon!:rofl::rofl:

Yeah, coons are legal pets in a lot of places, (not Colorado). Wild caught coons are almost always destroyed because of widespread rabies.

Smart little (seen some the size of a medium dog) bastards though for sure!

Chewey is lucky he wasn’t in NY State. He’d have ended up with Peanut and his racoon pal, headless in a cooler.
