I learned that lesson when I really did lose my boat to a hurricane in 2004. It was a 33’ Egg Harbor that was worth $50,000 I insured for $15,000 agreed value. I admit the only reason I had insurance at all was because the marina wouldn’t let me tie my lines to their wooden poles that my boat ripped right out of the bottom during the storm. Insurance offered me ~$2,000 of my agreed value for a total loss. They asked me for receipts to prove the boat was properly maintained. About 30 pages into the faxing from my end they called and asked me to stop. They paid the full $15,000 agreed value.
