Certainly, one of the greatest improvements in sheaths has been the extensive use of Kydex, but knifemakers are still using leather and ballistic nylon. Two knives I’ve wanted to add to my small collection are HONSHU’s “Arming Dagger” - now offered in D2 - and UNITED’s “Combat Commander V2 Stiletto” - but what holds me back is their all-leather SHEATHS. Although THICK and STURDY, they need a hard plastic LINER for edge protection and long-term storage. Fed up, I “pitched a bitch” about this to UNITED - which probably won’t make a dent - adding that even a THIN liner in their “Vortec” material would be a vast improvement. Just as in guns, tannic acids from leather can leach onto a gun’s frame or a knife’s blade, promoting corrosion. ALL leather and nylon sheaths should come with this feature, which adds to a sheath’s RIGIDITY, as well. FYI

I prefer leather, my knives are tools that get the proper attention. They only go into a sheath when they go on my body. Leather is more comfortable, looks better, molds better and not going to make a noise when drawing it.
