They are whispering behind our backs! If they can attempt two impeachments and then try criminal pursuit, never ever trust a Democrat! We should know what it feels like to be stabbed, repeatedly in the back!
These people have no problems killing us in our sleep. That bit of “good” news alerts me to be on my toes, head on a swivel!
We were talking about this kind of stuff yesterday, Notice how the Covid thing started with mandatory lock downs, masking and the like. It was obvious and forceful. BUT have you noticed how it all just seems to have withered away? No grand announcement of repeal, no accountability, the Gov just stopped talking about it. I suspect Gun Control will be similar but in reverse, a little rumble here some rumors there. A couple of emotional speeches followed by articles like this. Then one day the door slams shut, they passed it in the dead of a Friday night on a holiday weekend. Announcing it as THE keep you safe from multiround automatic military style AR assault rifles and pistol act. Several thousand pages that are released at 4:30pm and passed into law at 5:00pm.
I realize this is not related, but of recent posts, this fell into this category - sort of. I heard that in 2023, some states begin this new law, to my pleasant surprise:
“Schools teaching safe gun storage"
"As part of their safety education, schools in 2023 are now instructed to include lessons on safe gun storage as a part of their safety education classes.”
I thought it kind of positive for 2A support, and safety at the same time. I can even see outside 2A groups supporting this as well. Interesting movement into the mainstream.
One small step for man one giant step for the American people.
We shall see how this gets implemented in the schools. A big tell is the size of the budget for this program ($3.5 billion over two years) compared to the allocation for mental health ($230 million for one year). Here’s the important parts, below, from a news story on this program in Illinios:
The Illinois State Rifle Association stayed neutral on this plan as it moved through the General Assembly. However, ISRA Executive Director Richard Pearson said the organization did provide gun safety data to help inform lawmakers. Pearson says safe storage has been around since the 1960s, and most responsible gun owners know how to do that.
Hirschauer [(D-Batavia)] agrees that state lawmakers need to address the use of illegal guns as well.
“The message of safely storing your guns keeps those weapons safe from being stolen out of cars,” Hirschauer said. “A lot of guns, I think, are stolen from the front seats of cars or home invasions.”
“Generally, we are for that,” Pearson said. “But the devil is always in the details in any of these bills and, in this case, in what is in the curriculum.”
He also stressed that the ISRA won’t give its stamp of approval until they know what kids will be learning. The law takes effect on January 1.
A separate bill on Pritzker’s desk calls for a statewide safe storage public awareness campaign. The Illinois Department of Public Health received $3.5 billion in the Fiscal Year 2023 budget to help run the educational campaign for two years.
“The problem becomes when you have illegal gun owners. There aren’t really any illegal guns. It’s illegal gun owners,” Pearson said. “And they know, nor do they much care, how they store their firearms.”
Mental health has been the stepchild for the state of Illinois and the nation generally for 20 or 25 years,” Pearson said. “Mental health programs have been cut back. We used to have zone centers everywhere in Illinois where people could go for treatment. The mental health funding needs to go way up.”
The Fiscal Year 2023 budget includes $230 million for community-based mental health care and substance use treatment providers. It also allocates $70 million for the 988 call center to properly respond to people experiencing mental health crises. $2 million is set aside for mobile treatment units and $3 million will go to a new Illinois State Police diversion program to provide mental health and substance use services for crime victims.
Wow, teaching people how to deal with safe gun issues and teaching people how to deal with mental health issues. Who would’a thunk. Seems like we are starting to get it.
I am not holding my breath. Lightfoot and Illinois governor will do something to mess it up I’m sure. Beetlejuice is just waiting to cause havoc
For one thing I use as safe storage is that the safest storage in to be on my body at all times or with in a hand grip, that is the safest storage to me
Did you not get the part about the vast difference in funding ($3.5 billion over 2 years compared to $230 million for one year)? Makes one wonder what will cost so much to teach children firearm safety. I surely did not spent even remotely that much to teach my daughter firearm safety and how to shoot.
Furthermore, as this was passed by Democrats, it is not likely to be as good as the words used to describe it. Time will tell. If you read what I posted, the IRSA (Illinois State Rifle Association) is neutral on it, so there had to be some questionable aspects in the bill. “He also stressed that the ISRA won’t give its stamp of approval until they know what kids will be learning. The law takes effect on January 1.”
Furthermore, as he points out regarding firearm safety “most responsible gun owners know how to do that.” And the comment from the Democrat rep makes clear this is not going to do anything about those who illegally possess firearms. “Hirschauer [(D-Batavia)] agrees that state lawmakers need to address the use of illegal guns as well.”
Pearson stated, “The problem becomes when you have illegal gun owners. There aren’t really any illegal guns. It’s illegal gun owners,” Pearson said. “And they know, nor do they much care, how they store their firearms.”
The school systems cannot even do what they were intended to do, teach the 3 Rs or anything else. I would be willing to bet that this will be nothing but an effort by the NEA to perpetuate all the typical falsehoods about guns and the people who legally own guns! Do you really think the NEA and the schools will do the right thing? Children today have a better chance of having a transgender stripper teaching the joys of being trans in class, than actually being taught the 3 Rs!
I think the intent is there. The mental health issue I feel is a more important issue in that it could prevent gun violence. Just my take on it. To me mental health means living in a loving environment. Am I being too unrealistic?
We will see how much of that 3.5 B. gets siphoned off into peoples pockets.
Bad news. Politicians are all crooks.
I assume you did not intend that meaning. However, yes, it is unrealistic to believe that the Democratic party - intent on citizen disarmament - would pass a legitimate bill regarding firearms. We know the types of laws they typically propose and pass, and they are certainly not 2A friendly. However, as I do not live in Illinois, it’s not my fight.
Thankfully in Virginia, we have not lost our RKBA, even though during Northam (D-governor), the Democrats were trying hard, with some success. Thankfully their batting average was quite low. One of their worst offenders of the RKBA even lost his primary due to his extreme stance against our RKBA.
It only goes to show Virginia is for lovers.
You got there before I could.
I suspect anti gun teachers backed by anti gun unions funded by an anti gun government will pretty much end up being anti gun teaching, or worse.
Good ingredient Robert. I sometimes hear mental health professionals even forget to talk about love. They need to remember that too.
I imagine, what if there was as much push towards more and better mental care as much as there is a campaign against firearms; And that positive new difference we could be making in people’s lives.
Been there, done that. When and how to take control to end gov’t tyranny.
Don’t be lulled into thinking they have let gun control go. The left knows all too well how to get legislation passed behind the curtains i.e. “you have to pass it to see what’s in it” as Pelosi said on live TV with a straight face (or as straight as you can make that much botox). That type of arrogance is dangerous. That is how they bury all types of pork and damaging regulations in “necessary legislation”. Just because the left has stopped talking “openly” about gun control, it is still in the kitchen and on the stove.
