New option on a Honda?
Apparently struck someone not only not carrying one in the pipe, but completely unloaded, and did not have time to load and shoot at the vehicle running him/her down.
Well, I just researched it and found this, just one of the numerous sources. I even saw it mentioned in a UK news site. Apparently firearms are so prevalent in Washington state, people toss them out of their vehicles when done with them like they are cigarette butts. I did not find any follow-up story about the ATF trace on the initial owner of the firearm. It is suspected to be a crime gun used in a robbery shortly before it became impaled in the bumper. The driver saw something flying through the air, but did not feel an impact, and later found it when he stopped for gas.
Thx God it wasn’t P320 before upgrade… 
How long is the impound before the finder can claim his/her gun?
That is a “depends” question. Answer might be never. Also, depends on was the owner the one that committed the crime… Some police departments are not friendly toward its citizenry and will make it difficult, especially in restrictive states. I do not believe there are any laws requiring return of firearms, nor a limit of time to do so.
And does it need to be “claimed” through an FFL? 
My sister in law’s gun was returned to her by the local Police after missing for about 10 years. It didn’t go through an FFL here in Florida. (She reported it stolen as soon as she knew - within hours). She did ask the Police if it was involved in a crime, they would not confirm nor deny.
