Yeah, I’ve been guilty of that.
We had a competition pistol and rifle team at my high school. It was run by the Jesuits, the military order of the Catholic church. Plus we had to drill on the rifle team. I never loved being a runaway as much as when I got taken in by a Jesuit priest who got me a scholarship to a school I could have never afforded.
'THEY DO EXIST"
Some schools near me do have shooting teams. Shotgun, trap. Then there’s 4H. In our county, we have shotgun, archery, and small bore rifles. My brother and law coaches shotgun, a good friend of mine archery, and I’m the rifle coach. It’s a big enough deal, that we get annual donations from the Friends of the NRA. This was our first full year of rifles, and the Friends donated us 30,000 rounds of ammo. With Illinois school sports on hold, I’ve had several inquiries about the team. Any kid can join. Ages 10-18. We teach safety first, then accuracy, all while fostering a welcoming environment for youngsters. We do our best to keep costs down. I’m constantly telling people it costs less to do my sport, than to play jr high basketball.
In which God Himself tells us to sell the clothes off of our backs to buy a weapon.
Now I get to start over…
