I’m with you on that, but “gun” can be appropriate for some light and heavy arms. I’ve always believed the insistence on using the term “rifle” is to promote a respect for the personal weapon (just an opinion of course). I prefer weapon, rifle. I carry a handgun and have shotguns, but I also have rifles.
I also don’t put clips in my weapons instead of magazines. Magazines don’t fly out with a “PING!” after last round fired.
I love love Full Metal Jacket. My Opa who was retired Tech Sergeant USAF Vietnam vet 
said that was the closest movie to he seen in regard to training but combat he would not talk about it sadly my oma was not ever able to recieve full benifets due to his file was blacked out (blackops). His service file was i mean solid black
